I am looking at buying a 300-340 utility. I have found a 300, 330, and 340 all w/ loaders. The 300 comes w/ a Westendorf WL 21 QA, JD 272 finish mower, disk, blade, chains and manuals for $5500 obo. The 330 comes with only a loader and not sure what kind for $4500. The 340 also not known what kind of loader for $3700. Seller says TA and powersteering are good and paint still good on th 300. To me the 300 would be the smart buy w/ all the goodies that come with it. I am going to look at them this weekend any suggestions?

Russ;
I bought a 350U with loader and rear blade for $3000 back a few years ago. A good little tractor, if all you are going to do is move snow and some light road maintaince. Like any older piece of equipment; plan on finding some new words to use, when you start working on it. "Utility" is another word for "everything compressed together until you can't get to the part you need to, until you remove 3 other pieces" in my book.

In regard to price, I agree with Allan...if you find what will work for you...just buy it! Too many people let money control their decisions.

Hi Russ,

I would vote the 300 every time given those choices. Hope it has a wide front end under it?

Another point I make and a lot of people will disagree with on this, but I say to just plain and simple forget the darned money issue (within reason, of course).

Two weeks after the check is written, you forget all about the money, heck it is gone. But the darned tractor and how it operates for your particular needs will continue on and on and on, with every blessed time you start it.

That's why I never make any purchase of anything based on the price as my governing item alone, but rather, on the quality of goods purchased. Make any sense?

Allan

If you do a lot of tight work and are going to use the clutch a lot the 300U can wear you out. After a day of scooping sunshine with mine I can only walk in circles, after two days I start running into things. Power steering on a 300U with a bucket is a must too as are a lot of rear wheel weight. Other than that I like mine and have done a LOT of farming and general work with it.
