I have a Ford NAA with a second gear that is not working properly, missing teeth I think. Replacing it would cost $300-400 best guess. Would it be to my advantage to put in a reconditioned Sherman transmission for $1000. Any hidden costs that I am not considering, other than time which I'm going to spend anyway on the second gear?

A grand for a Sherman combo is a bit steep!! I have a very nice late model combo I'll sell for $750.00 plus shipping from 93706. AND, as stated below, you'll still have to fix the four speed sooner or later. So why do it halfway? You'll already have your Jube split.

The Sherman Hi Low tranny is a great add on for the NAA, but you will need to fix your NAA tranny too. The Sherman uses the original tranny and adds a High and Low gear range to it, so you get 12 speeds instead of 4. To install it, you remove the input shaft that sticks in the pressure plate and clutch disc, and replace that with the Sherman. Of course you gotta split the tractor to do this...

John Smith's site has some good stuff on installing the Sherman.

What is John Smith's site? Thanks for the info. I am pretty clueless on the transmissions but I'm sure I will learn a lot when I get into this one.
