Always thought that one of these days I'd come across a good, straight, clean original tractor from the 40's or early 50's that doesn't need anything (well, hardly anything) done to it. One maybe from the original owner (or family) that has really been taken care of, serviced regularly and shedded and it would be a "turn key" purchase. Haven't seen one yet but one of these days maybe. Have you ever come across one? Maybe tell us about it.

My cousin and I have several. Sorry, none are for sale. All John Deere. 1949 "A" purchased new by my uncle. 1950 "A" purchased new by my dad. 1951 "B" bought new by my grandpa. 1955 "60" purchased new by my uncle. 1956 "60" purchased new by my grandpa. 1960 "730" purchased new by my dad. 1965 "3020" purchased new by my uncle. In addition we have several second owner tractors that have been in the family for years. All purchased from the original owner. 49 "B" 55 "50" 59 "730" 2 3010"s, a 4010, and a 4020. And I can"t forget the little 1950 Ford 8N. All still in the family.

Allan, What do you think of that collection? Don"t mean to pick on you, but I enjoy you commentary on this and other boards so much, just thought I had to throw a little comment in as well. Loren

I have a 46 H John Deere that's 100% mechanical and otherwise original. I've been told that in that condition, it may be more valuable than fully restored. Saves me from doing all the dirty work to repaint etc.

I have an original 1954 WD45, I'm the 3rd owner. Every now and then she surprises me with a new problem, but for the most part everything works. I have the original 3 bottom plow and a set of front mounted 4 row cultivators.

My Massey Colt is one of those tractors. Purchased from original family, always in barn. It has original decals and paint, although the paint is thin in places. I think the only thing not original was the headlamp switch. It has quite a few oil leaks I have to get at and the brakes are not the best.

I agree with Rusty,

The tractors you are talking about are still out there working. Darned old things seem to last forever.

I own a 1950 Farmall H that shows no signs of ever being repainted. I also believe that the engine has never been opened up. I cannot document or verify any of this. The sad part is that the old girl has virtually no paint left on it, and the engine is way overdue for a rebuild. The good part is that she always starts, has plenty of power, and is just about the most dependable tractor I have.
