I recently purchased a Farmall SMD with wide front end. After I put a new kit in the Carb, It started right up. (after 15 years)The belly pump is missing, the front and rear crank seals are leaking really bad. It needs new front and rear tires. The old ones hold air but are 18.4x38. I put those on to put it in a antique tractor pull.I now would like to put it all back to original with a new paint job. Am I getting over my head? Is it worth it to put that much money into it or should I sell it? There is a person that I know that wants it. He said he would give me 2500.00cdn. Should I take it?

Mike

Michael,

I think i"d keep it & fix it up. I"m in Ontario and have yet to see a SMD tractor. Not too many of those up here in Canada, and it will only increase in value as the years pass by.

With that 2500 you could buy a cheap trctor that needs minor work and put the rest of the money into parts for the tractor. At least thats what I think

my buddy and I restored a SMD. it took about 4 grand to do it, but we did everything on the eng. don't cut corners and try to save money it will catch you in the long run. we loved the tractor. it was turning 56 horse when we got done and we would use it for everything. it was a lot of money but if you are going to keep the tractor and use it, its very well worth the money spent. we just did the eng, no paint and no rear end work. just rebuilt the eng and replaced the cluth and a few hyd. hoses. what a sweet tractor we had, we sold it and bought and 400 Diesel. but I wish we still had the SMD

I would take 2500 for it altho I think it's kinda rare. The engines are apparently very expensive to work on.What part Can. are you from?
