I got on late this evening so I posted up top because I wanted you guys to see this reply:). The deer population is so bad around here that we finally had to put up "deer crossing" signs. Would you believe that some of those deer won't obey them! However, if they don't, they can be charged with a "misdeermeanor"! However, that's only put a dent in a bumper crop! (PI) I watched 47 cross my field the other day. They are out of control! What do you think about that one AllAN? :->

I think I have the ultimate deer proof vehicle:

A '75 Blazer with a 454, one ton axles, and lockers and a 600 lb welded steel bumper. It is lot's of fun and the wife feels safe from the buggers. I am trying to post a pic here. Let me know if it comes up...

We have the deer crossing signs here in Texas but they put em to far apart. can't blame the deer for not crossing at the signs. I haven't hit a deer in 55 years of driving but come real close a few times. wish I could say the same for the wife, she's hit enough for both of us. we also have the wild hog crossing signs, they can't read any better than the deer, shooting and traping hogs year around don't make a dent in the population either.

Had my best friend killed by a deer 1/2 mile from his house in July of 03! 2:00 in the afternoon! He just left his house on his Harley got 1/2 mile down road, 3 deer ran across road in front of him , The couple following him said he missed the frist two but the third one hit him! Not the bike! But Him,when it jumped it took him right off the bike! He slid across road head first into a mail box post that was made out of an old telephone pole! Massive head tramua! wasn't wearing a helmet! Trooper said it wouldn't had mattered anyway! impact was so great! Killed him on the spot! Can't help but think that God may had, had a hand in it though! When they done the coroner exam they found his chest was full of cancer! Nobody knew! dont think he did! if he did he didn't tell anyone about it! Steve was a super nice guy! in 35 years of knowing him I can honestly say I never seen him Mad or say a bad word about anyone! He was a supre nice person, Hurt me bad to loose him!
But I think God didn't want him to go thru the pain of cancer and called him home while he was doing his favorite thing! Riding his bike! Bob

I agree we have way to many deer. But I think we need to get on the DNR (or whatever!). But I don't know what the answer is! I have been hunting all my life, and I see very few new hunters coming up. Most guys I hunt with are 50+ and only one in the group of 5 has a son that hunts. And the farmers in outstate michigan, especially the cattle and dairy guys, would be better off without deer TB! My 2c.

What they need to do for 4 years is give away doe permits that are unlimited and charge $15000 for buck permits and that would thin them out in a hurry. Here in ILL we have thousands of out of staters that only want wall hangers. and the does are thick I have seen herds with 50-75 does in one place at many points around lake your right thin em down.

About four years ago I was travling in an easterly easterly direction on HWY 50 in central MO, at one of those Deer Crossing signs a Deer stood waiting to cross.

That many out in your field, ehh? Hmm? Get some baling wire, a mouse trap, and a claymore mine. The wire gets pulled, closing the trap, setting off the mine. Umm, make sure the mine is pointed away from you, the house, all tractors cause all of them BB's sure do make a mess. Point it towards the woods, will take the rest of the leaves off the trees and mulches them at the same time. Come to think of it, mulches the trees too. From then on, deers will call you from a payphone and ask permission to cross your property first, might even be willing to drop a dime on those cyotes in trade. LOL.

Up here in Alberta we have "cattle catchers" on the front of our pickups, deer bounce off them real nice. Here's a good landing. Just for fun, we do have them all over here to, right up to the front door and on the lawn. I failed to understand why some deer crossing signs show them walking and some show them jumping, some jumping higher than in other areas... anyone explain?

I saw that like a year ago. Some VP type at SBC sent it around, then made its way down to us on the lower rungs of the food chain. He said some lady was complaining about the quality or lack service and some tech found that while out tracing the cause. Was hit by a train and tossed after taking the hooves off.

Well, I didn't see any train tracks, and couldn't make out whether or not those wires and insulators on the top row are phone, but am guessing are AC. Was half tempted to Email it back to that VP and remind him that we could be fired for using corporate Email for personnal use per SBC company policy, and some guys I know have been. But, since he is/was a VP, I figured I just let it drop and erase it, and did.

We need a senator to get a bill/law started that makes these deer learn to read. It should be english but I'd accept spanish or e-bolics. Is there a language called deer-bolics?
If they refuse, the deer must come home with us for supper.

Your a funny guy. Yeah can you believe those *#%@% deer for not obeying basic traffic laws. Here in Michigan we need a bigger time span for the hunting of deer. People lose their lives to these stupid animals and the only ones that make money on it are the collision shops. If I had a truck I would make a large weldment that would bolt to the front of the truck and skewer the deer as you hit it so that it would not flip up over the hood and possibly kill the driver. Not a bad idea huh.

Howdy,

We got those same signs here in S. Ohio. Bad thing is some folks got funny and painted red noses on "em so the deer are all confused. Don"t think they use "em at all now. Wanted to give a big howdy to Leland too. I"m gonna guess the adams and pike counties you were talkin bout are here in good ole ohio, right? I live in Adams county and we have our own little private herd that lingers around the farm. Had a doe eatin left overs from picking corn while I was still pickin one day last week. I may start a hunting service. Charge folks to come hunt as I drive them around the fields with a tractor and trailer. Guarenteed to see one that way. God bless.
