Small Engine Problem

I have a 6 hp Briggs on a Toro lawnmower that is
pushing oil out the air filter. Is this from a broken ring or something else? It starts good and
runs fine with just a small amount of smoking, but
doesn't smoke all the time. Only oil loss seems
to be from the air filter. Am I missing something
here? Thanks.

When a Briggs crankcase breather/oil seperator assy fails they will pump a lot of oil into the carb by way of the breather hose. They are cheap and easy to replace.

What causes the problem is that the gasket between the halves of the breather shrink and block the oil drain holes. When the breather gets full of oil, blowby gasses carry the oil into the carb/aircleaner.
