I've got a 48 LowBoy thats yellow!
Can't find any trace of red anywhere! Paint looks to be Original, except for hood where someone painted it a little darker color of yellow with a brush! Right over decals and all!
But tranny, engine, rearend all look to be yellow from factory! Even tryed scraping a few spots on some out of the way places to see if I could find some red paint with no luck!
Anyone know if they ever painted them yellow from the factory? Maybe for the Highway Department so something?
Bob

In 47 they would look like this. in reply to rterry, 10-27-2004 07:59:48

They painted them white so the dealer could tell the demonstrators from the ones they wanted to sell. And I know they painted them like this, cause I saw one.

White demonstrators were in the 1950 model year with the generally accepted serial number range of 99536-106517. The serial number of your cub indicates a 1947 cub. Red would be correct.

The top picture appears to have been taken at cubarama, and the lower one is, I believe, George Willer's cub collection.

Bigdog is correct regarding the serial numbers and years.

You are correct on both pictures. I should have given proper credit. Thanks for pointing that out.
