I'm rewiring my 1950 8N - have a wiring diagram but need a few questions answered. I'm running 6 Volts and Positive ground.

1. The wire from the Ampmeter to the Terminal block. Is that from the + on the Ampmeter to the T Block ground (+)?

2. The wire from the Coil to the Distributer. Does it connect to the + or - terminal on the coil.

3. On the ignition switch - How do you know which wire is power and which is ground or does it matter??

Thanks in advance

1.) There are 3 terminals on the junction block. 2 are for the ignition resistor, and the 3rd is a junction point for the battery and charging circuits. All are insulated from chassis ground.

2.) If you have a "round can" coil with 2 primary terminals, for your original positive ground application, the (+) will go to the distributor.

3.) The 2-wire ignition switch doesn't care which wire is power and which is "load" (which I think is a better term than "ground").

Have you looked at the appropriate diagram HERE:

My 8N is a side mount distributor so there are only 2 terminals on the terminal block.

The diagrams on this site don't even show two wires coming off the coil much less which one (+ or -) go to the distributor. It also doesn't show which terminal on the ammeter hooks to the terminal block.

The bottom line is I have it wired completely except I don't know which wires go where that are coming off the coil and ammeter. My diagram shows them but doesn't tell me which one goes where.

I guess if all else fails I can just find a similar tractor and see how its wired - there's plenty of them around this area.

The "after serial number 263843" diagram is for a 2-terminal terminal strip. Did you scroll down to that one?

I have told you where to put the coil wire.

If you have the wires on the ammeter reversed, no harm is done, but the ammeter will read backwards and charge will be shown as discharge. In that case, just swap them.
