I buy and sell a good many tractors every year. I find this is a good time to sneak up on bargains BUYING them, as people are done with their summer chores. If you can buy cheap enough, and have storage, they will go up in value come springtime. Same goes for impliments. I don't even try to advertise tractors at this point of the year. Another waste of good money and time. As the price of oil/gas has gone through the roof, it seems to me that cheaper/older tractors (NOT collector grade) are falling in value. People that can afford newer, better tractors can withstand the high price of fuel a little better. Yesterday, I was talking with an auctioneer friend. He said that he was discouraging potential customers from holding farm sales untill March or later, because of the down market at this time. John

Here, it is almost impossible for me to sell a tractor this time of year. Late spring (April-June) is when I have the best luck.

I think it depends on where you are. Down here in Florida, the winter is a little better time of year for selling tractors because of the influx of snowbirds.

The cost of filling up your car heating your home and feeding your family that alone keeps me from owning amother one.

I would have to say no, in the last month I have been to auction sales where steam enines brought $57,000 Sale out east yesterday gas engines went as high as $17,000, don't even talk about CASE prices lately exspecially here in minnesota. it more than likely has to be what you have for sale if it in the more common side of things probably less intrest. What about the $262,000 Russel in South dakota couple of weeks ago, on Ebay $18,500 for a Lap seam case traction engine a few years ago they would have brought scrap iron prices due to their decrease in pressure ratings. My feeling is there is a lot of money out there still and I see no decrease in the traffic at $2.00 a gallon gas, Just like real estate probably best to sit and watch for now the prices will come down.

It's people that can throw that king of money around that has drove the price of collecting and showing out of the hands of people like me!
I've managed one little Cub so far! Have always wanted a mid fortys John Deere D but with what people has done to the price of the Green tractors that will never happen!
I know I dont have that kind of disposable income! Try raising a family on a single income sending one thru college, one in high school and one just starting out in life that seem's to always need a hand with something! Average 20 hours of overtime a week just to manage what I got!

Apparently alot, There is no shortage of bidders at any of these sales this year if we added up the total collected sales amount for just antique tractors I think you would faint, I have been out bidded every weekend so far this fall and I pushed them into nose bleed territory myself, with most married folks and douple incomes I see alot of these items bring high prices, I have been to sales all over Minnesota items ranging from household to farm equipment and I have yet to see a bargin, in fact most comment what they can get in return or have seen sell on E-Bay, Tractor manuals are getting to be a joke alone by themselves as buyers bid them up to non resell value. I went to a sale in the middle of nowhere North Dakota and they had 4 cell phones bidding against the bidders in attendance this was not a very heavily advertised sale either again all item brought record amounts, on another sale same state in an area with very little disposable income as far as I was concerned many items sold brought high amounts and again I heard from many people that they could get even more on E-Bay selling it and the manuals once again went for hundreds of dollars no chance to even buy one as these folks specialize in manuals and they know what they can get out of them all I can say is that there is no shortage of diposable income for many items out there right now.

Thats the problem these yuppies have watched one to many reruns of green acres. but this really hurts a lot of us who do not have money to toss around like litter, but like every thing else this market will correct it's self. I have money but I am not going to foolishly waste it like these people do paying 2 grand for a 750 tractor but I am waiting to clean up when they grow tired and find out they will be lucky to get 30-45 cent on the dallor when they sell .
