I have a Farmall w4 with a side pully. Is there such a thing as a saw mill that will run off the side pully? And if so any idea where I might find one? Also a picture would be great!

I am looking for something old to run off the pully that I can use. Any other ideas would be great!

Bob

I have used the flat pulley on my Fordson Major tractor to run a welding generator for almost 40 years. Not sure where one would be available in the USA but here in Canada I believe Princess Auto still has some available. Mine has a triple vee pulley on the welder, so I use 3 vee belts, running right on the flat surface of the tractor pulley. Mcleods, (another Canadian company ) used to sell one with a flat pulley. I still see the odd one at farm auctions up here.

My dad ran his M-14 Bellsaw for years off of the belt pully from his IH super W-6 and before that he ran it with his Case DC-4. He used a 42 inch blade on his saw and needed some good power for cutting big logs. I think the W-4 may be a little lacking on a saw with a larger blade, but you may be able to get by with a smaller blade. Just my opinion, but it's better to have more power than not enough.
Hope this helps some. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies!!!
I have seen a shingle mill but have never seen one for sale. I live in CT. I would love a shingle mill or saw mill!!

I plan on using it at my home, no traveling.

We have a Belsaw sawmill built on a channel iron frame, so it is portable and we use it at home and show it at several shows in SW Ohio. It can run with a PTO shaft or flat belt, which is what we use at the shows.
Belsaws are fairly common, and they are pretty simple to build and use. The place to find one would be The Sawmill Exchange on the internet. Shouldnt be too hard to find them.
A W4 might be a little shy of power with a bigger blade. Make sure the pulley is sized right to get your blade speed appropriate, usually 600 RPMs.

It should work the saw mill, for added assurance get a large blade/flywheel. My uncle make a living cutting cross ties for the rail road on his saw mill using a MD 10-20

Anything stationary can be rigged to use a belt pulley: pump, grinder, shingle mill, sawmill, thresher, rock crusher, whatever. Are you looking for something to use at home or bring to a show? Maybe visit a few antique tractor shows and get some ideas, I've seem all of the above and lots more.
