hi i have a quick question. Ive been looking for a tracor and have found a allis wd45. the guy wants $2000 for it. he says it is in perfest shape and that it runs awsome. People say it is only worth around $2000 tops. why is that?? I mean if i compare it to the ford 3000, the fords are worth like $2000 more. From what i hear the allis has more horsepower so why are they worth so little?? im basical going to use it for mowing please help. thank you

2000 isnt cheap in my neck of the woods, if you get 1500 for one it better have new tires and look great as well as run perfect,, too many around here and tractor prices here are way down,,,Jim

I own a 1970 Ford 3000. I've driven an ACWD45 very little many years ago. The difference is maneuverability, ease of getting off and on, and the list goes on and on. Both are very reliable tractors, but the handiness of the 3000 is hard to beat. My 3000 has had 4000+ hours of very hard work and does not use a drop of oil season to season. One of the best Ford ever built.
My 2 cents.

That pretty much sums it up. They are just plain handy (with all of it's ramifications).

Because most people have no idea how good they are. Plus, having been such a useful tractor back in the 50's most of them by now have been beat to death. Most have had 3 or 4 owners & so many you see are in pretty rough shape. A good wide front factory power steering with 14.9's and an AC snap 3-pt is still worth $3000-$3400 if in good shape. Not bad for a 1956.

Howdy,

The problem is all that orange paint on there..heh heh. Couldn't help myself. Got a buddy whom I'm restorin a JD M for and they have nothing but allis tractors. We go back and forth all the time ruffin each other up over my JDs and his Allis tractors. I will have to agree with the fella who mentioned the allis' comfort. I help a fella in tobacco and he has a WD. Talk about a lack of comfort and even convenience. I've never worked with a 3000 though. God bless.

First off, except for an exceptional tractor being sold by an AGCO ALLIS dealer, I don't think that a WD45 is worth $2000! More like $1000 or even $500 would be more like it!

Second, a FORD 3000 is at least ten years newer, and as much as 20 years newer than the AC you mention. FORD 3000 tractors were built from 1965 to 1975, whereas the AC wd45 was built from 1953 to 1957.

The FORD 3000 is for a certainty likely to have:
1.) A full cat I or even a cat II three point hitch, whereas the AC will have snap coupler or an aftermarket hitch. (If it's lucky)!

2.) The FORD will very likely have live pto AND live hydraulics, with at least one set of remote couplers. The AC will have the hand clutch/power director, giving only simulated live pto, and in all likelihood will have only a single, single acting (not double acting) remote coupler.

3.) The FORD will be a wide front utility tractor configuration. The AC MIGHT have a wide fron end, but most are narrow front.

4.) The FORD 3000 can have several transmission options, with up to 10 forward gears. The AC has 4 forward speeds only!

5.) The AC will assuredly have more hp than the FORD 3000 does, and it will MOST likely have a gasoline engine as well! Many more of the FORDs will be diesel.

6.) The promotional information I've read concerning the AC WD45 never mentions power steering, Especially not for the earlier ones (say before 1955), but ALL of the FORD 3000 tractors are likely to have it, I say likely, because I am not sure if you can even have a 3000 with manual steering but I'm willing to concede the possibilty!

Finally, HOTLINE suggests that the 3000 might be worth $3000 (and as much as $7500) at auction. (with a low of maybe $1080) The Antique Tractor Guide does not give auction price ranges anymore.

The FORD 3000 is a much newer tractor, which is smaller than the AC but has many more features! I hope this helps!

The ford 3000 is newer, has more gears, has true live pto, and three point hitch. It also has wide front, and is a real handy utility tractor. The wd-45 probably has at least as much power, can likely pull more, and can get the same job done. More people like the convenience, and accesories the fords offer, so they bring a premium price.
