I can't get rid of the Canadian geese and my neighbors will rat on me if I shoot them.

I need to kill them. They won't eat the alka seltzer.

Suggestions?

MarkZ,

Try what one of the local golf courses does. Tie some strong fishing line - monofilament line(the heaviest you can find),to some short posts positioned all around the pond. Tie it in a checkerboard pattern across the pond or wherever they like to land. The lines should be 10-15' apart and 1-2' above the water surface. When the geese try to land the first time, they will get clotheslined since they can't see the line on top of the water! Might be fun to watch the first few. I suppose you will have to tighten the lines after a few crashlandings though.

If the problem is the geese walking onto your lawn just buy some white tape electric fence wire and elect. fence posts and put the wire about 8in above the ground right at the water edge and down the sides of your property. I know it sounds strange but they will not cross it. I heard that several years ago and thought it was another old wifes tale but this year i tried it and it was the FIRST year that we could use our lawn. I have an 7 acre lake and they love my grass.

Sick Ellsa the Rottweiler on them, she'll do it.

Many years ago, decades before Rottweilers got fashionable, our neighbors and good friends had one, Ellsa, and they had geese. Everyday them geese would come after her, and it seems everytime she'd had enough and go back after them was about the time the mom (Mrs. Eads) would come out and catch her, then whack her a few times with a broom for goin at them geese. One day the entire family went away for a few hours, and made the mistake of leaving Ellsa out, and when the geese came peckin, no one was there to stop Ellsa. When they got home, was nothin but feathers and dead geese everywhere. Ellsa finally got even.

Get someone to loan you a modern day Ellsa, problem solved real permanent like. LOL.

Dummy if you feed them alka selzer you can get fined about $750 and up for each bird you kill, bacause they are federaly protected birds and they don't screw around just ask some of my hunting buddies that got busted, best thing you can do is call local game warden and have him come out . But why do you feel the need to kill them they won,t hang around that long. And it's not the birds fault, blame all your niebhors that feed them , try to get county to put in a ban that keeps people from feeding them and the problem will go away after a while. but it's that way everywere if we can get states to open up goose season up earlier on the early goose season we hunters could keep the local goose numbers down, and there going to have to open up these lakes in sub divisons soon bacause the geese go to safe areas to roost and bear young so don't blame the birds blame DNR and the feds.

I would never call you a dummy if you were posting for help.

I have a pond in my yard. They stay all year and my neighbors don't feed them.

Enjoy your day.

Anybody that feeds alka selzer to birds is DUMB there is more humane ways to take care of this problem. But the way you posted your message was sounded like me giving drugs to your kids so they would over dose bacause I did not like them.

Just call John Kerry - hes been hunting geese lately (and making some of the tree huggers mad in the process). Well I think he hunted them before he didn't. And did I mention he had 3 Purple Hearts?

I'd like to see how this comes out. I've got Ducks taking off from a local golf course crapping on our semi trailers during this time of year and basically all winter long while the prevailing winds are coming from the northwest because they take off into the wind according to the extension office just like planes do. Their suggestions was to plant taller trees. Whatever happen to those creatures flying south for the winter I for one would help pay for their plane ticket because it costs a bloody fortune to have our trailers cleaned weekly. Nature, Bah! humbug.

This should give you plenty of ideas - oh, btw, I can say from personal experience, that the propane cannons that they hate, work very well.

Noise?

I know the vineyards use cannons to keep the birds from eating the grapes.

Could you shoot blanks?

I'm sure your local extension office could offer some suggestions.

Our lab chases birds. The turkey vultures won't even fly over our property.
