I have a Farmall A, '42, it has a sickle bar attachment off of a PTO, none hydraulic. Is it possible to take this off and put a log splitter on the tractor?

Any idea where I could find a log slitter like this?

Do you want to sell your sickle bar?

Don't know if you can run log splitter off the PTO, normally, 3ph splitters run off the wet lines, using hydraulics pump from tractor and rear mounted control valve, you should be able to "t" off one of the main supply lines and run lines to the back, it's absolutely useless having a splitter with the controls inside the cab AND dangerous to the poor guy on the wood end.

I don't imagine a PTO would have enough RPM to drive your a pump, others will know for sure.

Here's a picture of the big rugged home made rig I have owned and used for several years on my VAC.
The hydraulic pump slides right on the PTO.
Without a 3 point hitch, you'd have to find some mechanical way to lift the thing up.

That is one heck of a splitter! I have one I thought was big. Mine runs off of the tractors hydrolic system which gives some what weak results for the size splitter it is. I hate to torque down the release valve though so I just feed it easy.

Like Kendal said, without Hyd, I would just buy a regular gas powered log splitter. Just my 3 cents. Inflation!

Good luck. Craig

Here"s a splitter that don"t even need hydraulics.

They dont make a stickler for pto drive unless you have a counter clock wise pto.

Mine works great. I found what would be an antique one that is for standard ptos. The down side; if you are splitting by your self you have to get to the tractor to shut it down if something jams. If you try to split something too knotty it will screw up on it and you will have to saw it off. I bent the shaft on mine because of the above reasons.
The up side is the whole thing is just a chunk of iron. Easy to fix anything.
Mine is a 3 point with a stand.
If I get a chance I'll post a picture.

I think this is going to be one of those cases where you find that after you buy a pto hydraulic pump, hoses, valves, splitter iron, tractor attachments, etc., you could have just bought a nice splitter for less.
