Check with Brian Staley 607-283-9212 or 607-283-9430,they just dropped off my Oliver this morning, the service was outstanding, stayed in constant contact with me,and did everything when they said they would,@.70 per mile,,now I caught them coming back my way empty to get that price,he loaded it on his regular box trailer with a rollback at his out of pocket expense to boot, and adjusted the wheels in so it would fit, then put them back out when he got here and filled the gas tank,These guys were great I highly reccomend them.

Adjusted the wheels back out, and filled the gas tank? This guy's not a trucker, he's a saint.

Might ask Indydirtfarmer. You see, he has this favorite shipper that has premium equipment, is reliable, and does what he says he'll do. Supposed to be somewhere in NY state right now and will be coming back to Indiana or places west soon. Other than that have no idea. Haul my things personally, after I inspected them.

After THAT experience, I'm not referring ANYONE!

In fact, I'll take this time to warn everyone that you need to find out about your hauler BEFORE he loads your cargo. No one is going to come right out and tell you they have a JUNK truck, a REALLY JUNK trailer, no insurance, and no concept of reality. They'll just tell you they can haul your load for a cheap price. BE CAREFULL WHO YOU GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO INVOLVE YOU IN A LAWSUIT! John

Had to have a little fun.

Thats why I deal with OTR trucking companys that are local #1 good equip #2 INSURED # 3 There always room on 1/2 of there backhauls and they mostly take pride unlike some joker that retires and buys a trailer and thinks he's a super hauler, that does more damage just tring to chain her down.

Not the name.......... in reply to ferlie, 10-12-2004 19:58:21
I don't know the "truckers" name, but it WASN"T who you mentioned.

I sold a set of plows. The BUYER contracted with a trucker from Texas to haul them to New York. We were BOTH expecting a semi tractor/trailer rig to show up for the plow. Instead, We got an old, worn out Ford pick-up, pulling the worst looking home-made gooseneck trailer I've ever seen. The trailer had no brakes, very few working lights, and a rotten wood deck. The only thing preventing his cargo from rolling off the back was the ramps. He was hauling an International road tractor. Just guessing, I'd say he was about 8000 to 10,0000 overwieght. The truck AND trailer had "May-pops" for tires. No mounted spares, just a couple old rag tires and a floor jack in the bed of the truck. The driver was running at night, and sleeping days. He didn't have to tell me why. He was avoiding wieght stations, and staying "off the radar" as far as police being able to see him, and the mess he was on the road with. When I questioned him, he had no idea about CDL's, insurance, interstate travel of a commercial vehicle, or even reality in general. The buyer made the arraingements. I questioned the fact that we were both liable in some regards, but it was decided to load him anyway. The plow was hanging over the side of the trailer by about a foot. In addition to all the other "il-legalities" he was over width by nearly a foot. He left Kentucky, bound for New York. 2 days later, he called the plows buyer, and told him that the truck was out of fuel, and he was out of money. The buyer went and picked up his cargo. That gave the trucker $200 to run on to New Hampshire, then to Wisconsin, and then back to Texas. I hope he's off the highway.....

This is the kind of mess you CAN be involved in, should you not question the "legal" aspects of a hauler. Both myself, and the buyer would have surely been hauled into court, should the driver have been involved in any kind of accident. I'm not saying we were liable or not, just that any "good" ambulance chaser attorney would have gone after everyone involved. Me being one of them.

Be carefull! Choose your hauler CAREFULLY! There's a lot more involved than what meets the eye. John

Look in the second box down, on the left. The second from the bottom link, "Hauling Schedule".

I've never used any of these, but that's what they're there for...

You should be able to find someone in "Hauling Schedules" over on the left here. They are in there all the time, I however have stopped all commercial hauling. With diesel fuel figuring 30 cents a mile, and not counting wear and tear on me and the truck, I can't justify starting the truck for less then $2.00 a loaded mile, and I would feel like a camel jockey sitting on a million barrels of oil if I charged a man that much, so I'll just haul my own tractors, hay, and livestock and look out the window at it. Good luck, but these fuel prices are going to really play havoc with buying and selling heavy iron in the future I'm afraid. Later, Harley

Not trying to stir the pot but...
Just curious how you come to $2.00 a loaded mile.
Fuel has only gone up $.15 a mile over the past few years. In fact I think the fuel surcharge is at $.13 a mile right now.

Were you getting $1.85 a loaded mile a few years ago.

I may be wrong but I think you could get a truck that works through a broker and skims 25% of the top to haul it for $2.00 a mile.

John 2.00 a mile is cheap just figure it this way. 2.00+ a gal fuel figure 6 mpg thats .33 per mile fuel .07 for tires .30 -.45 per mile driver then plates ,permits roaduse tax and up to 1800.00 per month payments for truck and don't for get trailer plates payments insurance and maintance and guess what 2.00 per mile just won't go that far when was the last time you paid 125.00 just for an oil change.

Because if you figure $2.00 per loaded mile, and unless you sit on the outgoing end for another week waiting on a back haul, you are really only getting $1.00 per running mile, and the only way to make that pay is get more trucks.
