I have a 1950 model c. I have read that they fitted 500 model c"s between serial numbers FC48000-48492 along with FC50465 with engines that were labeled c-122.They were 3 1/8" x 4" bore and stroke engines. Does anyone know any more about this? And were these 500 tractors demo,s. My tractor is serial #FC48397 and the engine serial # FCM-122 G.I heard that in the early 1950"s farmers wanted more horse power. They produced 500 of the 122"s and then started production of the super c"s in mid 1951. Anyone with any information they would like to share would be greatly appreciated. Thank"s DC

While I've never heard of a C-122 engine, I have personally seen a C with the visual cues of a Super C. By serial number, it was a "C", but had the taller radiator, curved pedals, disc brakes, and I would assume the bigger engine along with the other internal improvements of the Super C. The owner was using it in an antique pull; he knew it looked like a Super C, but the serial number showed a late model C.

I think the C-123 is 3-1/8" bore from the factory. C-113 is 3".

Good luck,
Bill

Farmall C's had a C-113 engine officialy. Super C's had a C-123. Super C model run started in 1951. I never heard about 500 C's that had 123 engines, but knowing how IH did things, It's possible they did put C-123 engines in some late C's. Who Knows?
Super A's also had the C-113, but some late Super A's did have the C-123, even though I don't think it was "official" until the Super A-1's came out.

It's also quite possible that someone rebuilt your C using thinner sleeves that allow the use of 3-1/8" pistons.

My 1940 B has aftermarket 3-1/8" pistons in it's C-113 engine, that was common practice on rebuilds for many years. It might add a couple horsepower on a dyno, but it's not likely that anybody would notice much difference in how it works in a field.

To be a true Super C, it also has to have the taller radiator, disk brakes, curved pedals and faster gearing in the transmission too.
