What actually causes a governor to surge? Weak spring? Im orking on a old Silver King right now and she wants to surge when it is at a idle. When its running around its ok and seems to be kicking in nicely. Any Ideas?? Thank You!!

A plugged carburetor idle circuit will cause surging. If the engine won't idle, this is the likely culprit. As others said, surging is rarely caused by the governor, it's just a sympton of some other problem.

Generally the problem is elsewhere and the governor is trying to compensate. Some governors have a droop adjustment to change sensitivity.

Depends on the governor type, but often lengethening the rod from governor to carb will eliminate surging.

The Onan engine on my welder surges sometimes. Carburator adjustment will usually fix it.
