After replacing the starter solenoid on an International 300 Utility Im getting nothing on the key turn. Is it possible I have the wrong solenoid or wired it wrong ? The battery is good by the way. The ignition switch has two wires coming from it and then theres the + battery cable. The solenoid I relaced the old one with looks the same as the old one. It has a large lug on each side then two smaller terminals marked S and I. Can someone go over the proper wiring with me. Thanks

Doug,
if you only have 1 small wire to the solnoid it goes on the post with the "s". If you have two small wires to the solnoid then switch them.

The solenoid terminal marked S should connect to the start switch. Depending on the type, most energize the solenoid when you supply power to the S terminal. The other type gets power for the solenoid coil from one of the large lugs (marked BAT on the solenoid case),and energizes when you ground the S terminal. With yours having both the I and S terminal,it most likley is the type that energizes the solenoid coil when power is supplied to the S terminal. The I terminal is used on 12V ignitions systems that use an external resistor, when the solenoid is energized, the I terminal bypasses the ignition resistor to feed 12V directly to the coil to create a hotter spark for easy starting.
You can check which type of starting system you have with a test light or VOM. This way you can determine if the start switch powers or grounds the solenoid S terminal, which will determine which type solenoid you need.

The "S" goes to the starter switch momentary Contact Terminal (Pos+) and if you want full voltage to the Coil while turning it over you run the "I" to the "Coil Pos+ Terminal". You do need the Solenoid Metal Frame grounded (neg-) to complete the circut to engauge the solenoid contact. Mark H.

One other thought Doug, There is a small wire (10-12 ga)with a large ring terminal that connects on the same large solenoid lug as the battery cable. If you have misplaced this wire on the large lug that goes to the starter, nothing electrical will work.
