Just wondering, is there a National database for stolen equipment ?? I have seen a list of S/N's on a Cat dealer site, but it seems there should be a system in place to track stolen equipment. Unlike autos & trucks, anyone could probably get by for years using a stolen tractor or dozer. Nothing to back it up, but I figure lots of hot machinery goes through auctions.

I'm not sure that there is such a site. But then again, I honestly wonder if would do a lot of good. It might. I guess what i'm sayin' is that around here, tractors and stuff don't get registered - don't need to be, so only database is the owners, or maybe dealer brought from. National database might be a great idea, if don't exist already, might help in maybe some cases.

I here a ton of stuff ends up south of the borders. Maybe is a trade we take illegals, Decinte Fox takes heavy equipment as payment.

And maybe this tractor really didn't get stolen in '98, maybe was a slip and confused with the day he bought. Happens. It's his tractor, he oughta get it back, if possible.

Hmm? Maybe he's the one who stole it and is fishin' to find out if is safe to bring it out yet? UmmHmm?

I can't believe you guys ragging this man for wanting to know what happened to his machine and wanting to see those responsible for it's theft caught. He obviously found a tractor related site and thought maybe somebody on here could have seen this machine in the past 6 1/2 years, and unless it's been scrapped somebody very well may have. It might even be setting in one of ya'lls barns and you never knew that the man you bought it from stold it.....Heck, he isn't asking for ya'll to give the info for free, he's even ofering a reward. It's amazing how many pieces of equipment are stolen every day and never found. My new, service truck, a blue International 4900 with a 16' bed was stolen about toward the end of 2001. It left the lot at Adkins truck Equipment in Charlotte, NC along with 5 other brand new trucks. The cops said that the chances of finding any of them were practically zero unless somebody actually came forward and told them who did it. So, if anybody out there happens to see a custom designed Adkins Truck Equipment body equipped with a 11,000 lb Autocrane, a hydraulic driven Vanair Viper 85CFM rotary screw compressor, and a 3 cylinder Hatz Silent Pack engine setting in an opening behind the cab on the drivers side (powering the hydraulics for the crane and compressor), and a Miller Bobcat welder please let the authorities know. The 11,000 lb Autocrane was only the eleventh one that had been produced at the time and hasn't been produced since I believe first part of last year so that in itself is something to look for. I'm not offering a reward, the manufacturers insurance had to cover our loss as well as the other trucks, so the only thing you'll get is the satisfaction of maybe seeing justice done eventually and having at least one person off the streets before they steal your machine. Just my .02

I am not ragging him or anybody else but if you value your equipment invest in a lojack style tracking simple works sorta like on star,And like I said if they don't know it's on equip it won't stay stolen long. Today you have to use your head I think about 25% of used equip is stolen anymore.

this might be fine in your area.
I just ran a search on lojack website for a dealer within 100 mile radius of Lancaster Ohio 43130 0 dealers auto, 0 dealers heavy equip. This is central Ohio area close to state capital, numerous heavy equipment dealers and NO LOJACK. Probably means the police don't have it either. So when this mans piece of equipment was stolen odds are it wasn't avavalible then and may not be be to this day.
So help out by keeping eyes open you may end up with 10,000.
Ron

Leland, In this case, even if Jake invests in LoJack, his D-4 will have been stolen for 6 1/2 years. Is that not a long time?

Jake, I can tell by the date you claim your D-4 was stolen that you are right on top of things. If we find it in the next 6 1/2 years, does that constitute prompt response? Seriously, I hope you find it, but like Indy, wonder what took you so long to post this query.
