Can't even use

Have a Marvel carb on an Oliver 77 that runs gas over if the fuel shut off is left on. Does the float need bent to move the needle in more? Everything else looks good and there isn't much in there. Thanks for the help.

Your float might have a leak and is sinking. Remove the float and shake it -- there should be no sloshing. A very small crack, pinhole or bad solder joint will cause gas to seep in over time.

Sometimes if you change the gasket on the bowl you will get this situation or if theres dirt or rust holding the needle off the seat. I made a gasket recently for a tx-683 M-S carb for a Massey 35 and it"ll quickly fill up the carb and beyond if its too thick and holds the needle off of the seat...bummer Fred OH

The float is too high, or there is a speck of crap in the needle valve. These new Viton needle valves are all the rage, but I prefer steel. A speck of rust will imbed in the Viton while the same particle may cause a leak with a steel needle, but pass on through the next time the steel valve opens wide. Small particles that do not imbed in Viton needles can deform them, causing leaks.

So you can just bend the tab the needle is hooked to to adjust then?

Bend the float arm between the float and where the pin mounts it. With the float mounted and no bowl gasket installed, turn the throttle body upside down and measure from the true top of the float to the gasket surface. Should be about .25" but you may want to post on the Oliver board here for the absolute correct measurement.
