There are 2 McKee snowblowers at an auction tomorrow. They are 6", model 520. Anyone have any experience with these units? Can you still get parts for them? Will a 35 hp tractor handle it?

Thanks!

I have a McKee 6.5' that I bought used a few years ago. It's heavy. My Allis Chalmers WD handles it fine. I plan to use off-the-shelf sprockets from TSC for replacements. I think most parts that you might need could come from other suppliers.

Dave,
Thanks for the info. I picked one of them up for only $225! It needs a little clean-up, paint, lubrication, etc. But for the most part it is in good shape, just been sitting in a barn for who knows how long. This is officially my Fall project.

Interestingly, there were two of these at this consignment auction, each from a different seller. Both went for about the same money.

They are an excellent old blower. First problem will likely be the blower band. Next will be the sprockets. You will need to make some parts. Most other stuff is off the shelf. Sounds like you got a deal though. Good luck.

Thanks, Rod. Do you or anyone else know if there are manuals available for these snowblowers? Where? Also, what years were they manufactured?

Thanks again!

Nope, don't know of any manuals, except the ratty old one I have, and that's too poor to copy. Seems like our blower goes back to the late 60's. You don't really need the manual anyway, unless it's a collectors thing. For mait. just grease the shaft, and keep oil in the gear box, and oil the chain. It'll be fine. Take care.
