Just curious, anyone else out there dealing with irregular heartbeats?

I was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 35.

Browsing YT really helps take my mind off my heart when it decides to act up.

All this conversation and nothing about the wonder pills that should have been prescribed to keep these problems from being a problem.

This is very interesting. I have recently experienced some episodes that are described here on the posts. These episodes also seem like panic attacks. I haven't been checked out for anything--guess I'm scared at what may be found.

Anyway, I noticed that these episodes haven't been occurring on the weekends. I got to thinking about this, and the two ingredients absent on my weekends were: job stress (I don't handle this well) and gallons (a bit of an exaggeration, but not much) of hi-test coffee.

I quit regular coffee cold-turkey last week. I feel quite a bit better and seem to be improving by the day. I went off the wagon at a recent tractor show and paid for it. It was my turn to feed the bale press, and I just couldn't go. I went to the truck and laid out on the equipment trailer for a spell to get my wits about me. I guess that kind of proves my body has been poisoned by the caffiene, and it's saying NO MORE. My theory is that caffiene is a diuretic, and when you take a leak, a lot of elements that regulate your heartbeat get eliminated.

Take care and thanks for bringing this up.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

I have Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs). I have "extra" beats in my ventricles. I've been checked out very thoroughly and the Dr. says not to worry about it.

I've cut out caffeine, alcohol (which Dr. says causes "holiday heart" --arrhythmias), and have switched to a more heart-healthy diet.

My arrhythmia seems to come and go and has for the past 2 years. If I try not to think about it, it does lessen it somewhat.

Heck man you are already dead. No mornin coffee and no beverage of choice after a hard days work.

Yucko! I know my time's comin and I think about how I'll react; don't like the answers.

Gotta physical comin up in a couple of weeks. What if the Dr. finds something; how will I react? Will I go on a rabbit food diet, or cut out eating or blow my brains out..... .let him cut me up like a steak dinner.

It isn't so bad being off caffeine and alcohol. I can have occasional beer/wine, but just not to excess.

A heart-healthy diet isn't so bad either--either cut the bad food or get a bypass like our former President.

When I was a teen and exercised too hard, mine would go into an abnormal fast rate, till I cooled down. Haven't had a problem since and celebrating 63rd BD today.

Wish you the best.

Mark

Noticed where our last "ex" pres went in for a 4 or 5 way bypass. Seems odd as he seemed to be a athletic sort of guy (making the SS jog with him in the Washington am) and one would associate athletics with a healthy heart. (Well that's what the athletic equipment sales people want us to do.)

I have had a heart murmur since I was in my mid thirties. I am now 73+. I do not have the stamina that I did before I had the rhuematic fever that brought on the murmur, but other than that it hasn't slowed me down very much. I can go on all day at a steady pace but don't rush me. I also had irregular heart beats which the M.D. attributed to caffine. "Cut out the caffine and you'll be OK". I am OK. I still work part time and am usually busy doing something. So Cut out the cafine and follow the M.D.'s directions and you'll be AOK.

My doctor tells me that all most everyone has arrahythia. Most don't notice it. Caffeine, will cause premature beats that feel like a missed beat. A can of mountain dew would cause me to miss every 5th beat. Believe what your doctor tells you and try not to worry yourself to death. Kenny, been there, had the bad and am still kicking.

Did the Doc put a name to "irregular heartbeats?" Has it been checked recently, and have you seen a cardiologist about it? A fairly common arrythmia is atrial fibrillation, and it can usually be fixed if treated early. AF can cause complications.

Get rechecked and if it's still there, see a heart doc if for nothing else, peace of mind.

I'm not a medical person. My Dad, though, did have AF and it went untreated for years to the point his new Doc's were afraid to treat it agressively, for fear of causing a stroke.

I went thru 4-5 years of it starting when I was 37 years old. At night it would wake me up and scare me and my wife to death. it got to the point that I didn"t like to see the sun go down. in the daytime it didn"t bother me as much if I just went on with whatever I was doing and tried to ignor it, and that wasn"t an easy task to ignor it. After many trips to the Dr.and being wired to a machine and walking on a treadmill, a nurse took me aside after the Doc left the room and said ignor it and it might go away, and that this happens to lots of guy"s and gal"s, she said sometimes it goes away and sometimes it don"t, and not to let it get me down. The Dr never had much to say one way or another so I took the nurses advice. I never went back to the Doc with this problem, I"m not saying you should do the same, just don"t let it get you down.. I turned sixty five yesterday and haven"t had a problem in over 15 years, mine did go away.. Good luck to you Michael, and don"t let it get you down.

In Jul 97, an AF Doctor that did my Physical said I had a heart murmor and they set me up with a specialist to get the EKG/some other tests. Well according to the specialist with the New Mexico Heart Association, I don't have a heart murmor and he wished all of his patients had as bad a "heart problem" as I did. After the tests, He looked me over a couple of minutes and told me to get out of the office and go back to work. That was one of the few times in my life that I was glad to hear someone tell me to go back to work because there was nothing wrong with me. BUT, according to the Air Force doctors I have a heart murmor because this one doctor diagnosed me with one. This had me scared for almost two months. Since '97, I've been stationed overseas, and been on a couple of TDY's that I wouldn't think that they would send someone with a heart problem. Hope your situation improves and you are able to get on with a normal life. My father was diagnosed about two years ago with Congestive Heart Failure. Every day I wonder if that call is going to come.

Take care,
Jim

my girlfriend has it; drives her to distraction at nights & rarely daytimes. Seems to be annoying but not serious. Apparently common but I've only experienced it 2 or 3 times in my life.

Yes I have the problem too.My heart was perfect until I had pneumonia. The doctor perscribed some new anti-biotic.Took only two pills instead of the usual 10. Sickness was gone in two days. So was my Healthy heart and also my hearing.I immediately began with arrhythmia and hearing loss. Both daughters are registered nurses. Had them Check med. references and found four antibiotics which produce these side effects. The Doc never told me.I take Magnesium now which Doc also never told me would help. It does help. However Hearing Loss is severe and fading fast.
