If you guys haven't checked it out yet, you need to. And please voice your opinion. Here's my opinion, if the forum goes to the proposed format, I will have to just drop out and never be heard from again. I vote to just leave it alone. It ain't broke, don't fix it.

I hate change in reply to rustyfarmall, 09-19-2004 14:57:49
You guys are sad. I don't know why it is so difficult to except a little change. Technology changes constanty and it is the webmasters job to stay up to date or eventually you guys would be left without this site because the old tech would no longer work. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't really apply here. The internet is not like an old tractor.

You guys are probably the same ones who whine and cry and threaten not to go back to your shows when things change.

Change is a part of life people, and life is so much better when you grab onto the change and look for the good in it.

The problem is when with new you are KICKED OF because you cannot access with present equipment and you refuse to buy new (JUNK) equipment to get in. I Have a windows 98 and it blew the hard drive twice and now will not access the internet at all after the second new hard drive and will not by a windows 2000 or XB? I will stay off the internet before I do that.

Mark: You are so correct, change is great for manufacturers, it keeps their bank accounts full, and the rest of society in the poor house. Not hard for anyone to accumulate wealth today, if you stay away from every new gadget that comes along. Buy the ones that will last.

Hi Guys,

You need to try out the new forums. There not to bad and be changed to suit your needs under "edit profile"

I have a 56k dial-up that I get 26.4kps or 28.6kps out of since I'm so far out in the bushes and I don't have a problem with using either forum layout.

I did burn up a motherboard last December and bought a new puter with XP home. XP stomps Win98 all to heII and page loads are greatly improved 99% of the time.

With win98 it was so bad I was thinking of going with satellite (my only choice for speed) but now my dial-up is adaquote for how I use my puter.

We have several members here that post under several different names(handles) on the same forum so hopefully the new software will help with that.

So whats the big deal with posting under several different names? Because your replying to the same person serveral times or debating a topic with several people agreeing with one another when in fact it's only one person!

Dear Miss Kim: Please remember, this website is "YESTERDAY'S TRACTORS," and it certainly isn't "TODAY'S COMPUTER EXPERTS!" The truth is you have the best website going for us, and we've just learned how to really use it. You can't mix "Yesterday's Tractors" with "Tomorrow's Format"! If it's gona be like them other ones, then this website will be only for 'puter Geeks with new 'puters. I don't think you can keep as many people as you have now. Please keep it as it is; Ga.Plowboy

Maybe we need for her to come onboard with this discussion and explain her side of the change, it might be the only way she can keep it going for long term. Who would know better than the operatoe of it? How about it Ms. Kim? Gene Davis

I think with this new format you may have to become a member to post. Look down at the bottom there is a box that indicates what you can & cannot do on the forum. Membership is generally required to change all those "you can't" to "you can".

If it is what it appears to be, I'm afraid I don't understand the direction this whole thing is going. Are you telling me that I get to see one post at a time? Or do a ton of fiddling to see another one? Maybe I missed something but the whole thing seems a bit clumsy. I don't see where this format is any easier for the webmaster, maybe somebody could explain that for me. And it is WAAAAAY slower than what I get now, mind you my machine is pretty old. I don't think I could stand it to be honest if my test run was any indication.

PLEASE LEAVE THINGS LIKE THEY ARE... Like some of the other posts said, if it ain't broke don't fix it. These forums aren't "pretty and trendy" and I'd say that 99.999% of those of us that post here aren't "pretty and trendy" either so please don't force all that stuff on us. This is the only forum I've seen that is done as plain and simple as this one is and that's the one of the main things I love about it besides the people. If the forums change to where those of us that frequent it can't understand it or it becomes a hassel to post then the forums as we know 'em are gonna die. Just my .02

I can see both sides of this story. I agree with the majority, and their "Ain"t broke, don"t fix it" position.

HOWEVER...

No one involved in this discussion made mention of one thing which should be addressed -- would the "other" format be easier for Kim? And that sure have some merit also. No one says that it is mandatory that you use the "smileys" and other item that aren"t used here.

I"ll be happy either way. But if changing the format makes life easier for Kim, then I"m for it. I think it"s only fair to person doing all the work.

It"s a shame that both formats can"t be used at the same time. That way everyone can have it their way.

My .02 has been spent... Off to the ATM for more...

I`d pay kim 50.00 bucks to keep it the way it is. My puter(grandson taught me that) is old and I`m even way older than it is. Been coming here since 93 or 94 can`t remember. Don`t say much but I come here every morning for the past ten years unless I`m getting a tractor. I guess 5.00 dollars a year for 10 years is worth the enjoyment, for me. Please if you can keep things the way they are. God bless, RT p.s. Kim post an address and I`ll send you a M.O.

I think things should be left as they are. Like someone else said, we're not a bunch of teenagers. This is easy to read and simple to use. The only problem I have is with these never ending multiple posts, and that's a problem with the person posting and not with the websites software. People assume since they don't see their post in a certain amount of time, they need to repost. 'Tain't so. I'm no software engineer, but that's the way it works for me. Jim.

I'd like them left the way they are because the forums are easy to read and understand and we are all used to them as they are. Alot of the forums readers are older people and change would be hard to them to adapt to. I like this setup really well and voted no to the change, but surprizingly when I voted last week the majority of the votes was in favor of the new format, but only slightly in favor.

Rusty,

I'm with you! I think this forum has great character as it is!

I frequent some other forums with all the gaudy pictures and "smileys", and REALLY appreciate the down-to-earth, simple nature of this forum! And, yes, I'm on fast DSL, and can only imagine how some of the "glitz" of the newer formats must slow down browsing the Forums over dialup!

It never ceases to amaze me why people would think "gaudy" is better.

It's like those web pages you run across with the stupid little animations going on....okay for the 13 year old crowd, I guess.

I'll have to look it over a little closer when i have time.

I'm on 2 other dorums that use that type of formatt, I have a very hard time keeping up with them. They become very specific to only the newest & single browser, which is what frustrates me. Every time the software upgrades, a bunch of people get left out. I can only access one of the other boards from my PC, there is no browser/OS combination on my wife's iMac that will access it. Then the other board just _hates_ my 6 month old PC with XP - I can read things, but it does not keep me logged in enough to reply to a message without forgetting who I am. After 3 tries I just give up. But, it works well with my wife's Mac stuff.

I prefer message boards that do not bubble up new replies to the top - it is impossible to get rid of people like RealRon from such systems, as they can always bubble their pet peeves up to the top & everyone starts in again on another round. With a forum like this one currently is, those rather hot messages at least fall to page 2 after a while & get ignored.

I understand this system is _very_ old, and it must be a bear for Kim to keep running as well as she does. The age of it is what makes it work so well for all of us tho. A real trade-off there, easy for Kim to use, or easy for _us_ to use.

During busy periods, that brand of forum software becomes _extremely_ slow loading as it has to wander to different web sites to find all the gee-whiz animations & ads. Been my experience. Probably works better on a high-speed connection, but out in po-dunk that just isn't offered, so we get left behind by the gee-whiz new worthless (imho) animations & the like.

Guess those would be my big concerns. We are creatures of habit, and it is hard to change. I'll go along with changes, but I'd like to see the above addressed if it does change.

--->Paul
