How do you determine the year of an International Utility 300? Does the hand stamped serial # on the engine block indicate the year , or how do you reference the serial # to determine the year. This particular tractor has the "Torque Amplifier". Also, the gear case oil is milky looking, (water?) and leaks from the left rear wheel when parked on an angle. Could this be from overfilling, or does it indicate a bad seal? The stopping power using the foot brake is almost non existent. Could these be problems of non use ?

Thanks for your reply

Tom,

Redding Ca.

Take the serial number and go here:

Link

Doesn't much matter because it's either a 55 or
56, odds-on chance a 56 as that's when most were made.

Milkiness in oil indicates water getting in from somewhere, perhaps the filler.

Oil coming out suggests a seal is shot, whether the cause is over-filling or age...it's still shot.

Assume that you need to change out the brakes.

If you're thinking of buying, allow for the worst in the purchase price!

I have a 300 row crop. The serial number is on a shiney plate (under a film of dirt & oil no doubt) on the right side of the tractor, rivoted roughly between the engine & bell housing. The engine stamping is just for the engine, no relation to the tractor serial #.

You will want to track down how water is leaking into the rear end & fix that as well.

Hi TGB,

If your not going to use the tractor for awhile, park it to where you can drop the differential drain plug easy.

After sitting for a couple weeks or so the water will seperate from the oil and sit on the bottom next to the drain plug, So when you remove the drain plug water will run out first then oil.

Drain the water off a couple times and the oil will be pretty clear and water free.
