Have bought my first implement, a 6 ft 3 pt blade. My tractors do not have top links. COuld someone tell me what I need to look for when buying a toplink for the 3 pt? Is it pretty much dummy proof or do I need to buy a specific size? Are top links specific to my tractor or are they universal?

Thanks in advance.

Phil

I guess I would not say you don't have a top link on the tractor. You just don't have the top link. Some tractors come without a 3pt - either nothing at all, or some other idea like fasthitch, eagle hitch, snap coupler, etc.

So, you need to buy a toplink. There are kind of all sizes, but you are looking for a cat 1 top link, probably the average size one. There is a short one available also, you might possibly find a use for that too, but just guessing you will need the average size. Longer yest are typically actually for cat 2 hitches.... Measure as someone else suggested.

Any farm supply store should have some to choose from.

I bought one from the local NH dealer. Funny thing it is blue and tractor is red... :-)

But it works great!! It is adjustable for size and has a hold down pin so it dosen't rattle around when not being used.

Thanks to all!

Phil

Phil,

You will want to hook up your blade to the bottom two points of your 3-point and then measure the distance from the top link connection on your tractor to the top link connection on the blade.

You will want to take this measurement with the blade perpendicular to the ground.

This doesn't have to be an exact measurement, but a ballpark. Sounds like you have Category 1 machines and Category 1 top links come in a variety of lengths.

Have Fun,
Joe (Also from Maryland)

What kind of tractor do you have? Are you sure it has a three point hitch? If it does all you need to do is go to a farm supply store and get a toplink that matches the same category as your hitch, cat. 1, cat. 2, etc. ( cat. is the size ) The farm store should be able to help you. Make sure you learn how to safely operate your equipment.

I have both a Ford 881 and a International 404. Both Cat 1 3 pt hitches. Yes, I have studied the owners manual very carefully and have practiced safe operation.

I will take it slow with the new implements I will be getting until I get more familiar with them. I am very safety aware.

Thanks

Phil
