I am considering purchase of a 311 with adjustable wide front axle, LPG equipped w/front end loader. It is VERY hard to turn the tractor steering - even with the tractor in motion. It isn't power steering equipped, just manual. Is this normal for the model 311 with stated equipment. Is there an easy way to tell if the steering is functioning properly. Otherwise, it's a nice tractor with several levers that I don't know what they do.

My Case 611 has a loader, narrow front, and no power steering. You can't turn the wheel at all when stopped and can be a son of a gun even when moving.

Thanks to all for your response. As a result I have decided to continue looking for a good tractor / loader equipped with power steering.

If you wanna try steering for test . If equipped with down pressure on your loader, put bucket down and raise front tires . then steer tractor with tires in the air . If they turn easily you now know its the weight of loader and bucket making it difficult . Hope this helps .

Don"t know about the case, but my Ford 641 steered like a truck with the loader, and it has power steering! I couldn"t believe the difference when I got rid of the loader! I had thought the power steering wasn"t working, but now you can steer with a finger..... Stan

I too, am waiting for an answer specific to the 310. Mine is Ok whn moving or with bush hog on back. With a loader--forget it. I would like to know if this is the way it is, or if some thing inside is worn out. The levers? one up front on right is a 3 speed shifter. Some don't have it. Up front of your left foot is transmisson clutch--lets PTO keep running when you stop. One of the nicest tractor made, but for loader---I don't think so.

Unless you are a big burly guy, do not even think about a loader tractor unless it has working power steering.
