I was doing some trucking in Indiana a couple of days ago, travelled North on Highway 31. I noticed a couple of well preserved old barns with tractor logos incorporated into the shingles on the roof. One of them was something about a 40 JD H, the other had some sort of IH Farmall logo. I would loved to have stopped and taken pictures but time wouldn't permit. Does anyone know about these? Where can I find some pics?

There's one in Boone County, Indiana, with a poker hand in the shingles. I was told it was the hand that won the farm many years ago!

Hey Rusty
There is one North of Michigantown IN. on St Rd 29 with a big P on the roof. This was pictured in Farm World paper a few months ago back in the spring. There is also one South of Russiaville with a Hampshire hog and I have seen one I Think on St. Rd 24 in the Wabash-Hunington area with a JD Styled A. Not sure whether all were done by the same Company or not. I think some of them were done by the Sheriff-Goslin Company and are done with diamond shaped shingles. The design layout could be done on a computer. I do not know. I have also seen the ones you are talking about on US 31.

Those are just south of me. I think they are around Peru or Kokomo? I beleive the one is a JD LP A. Have seen several barns with different pictures in them around here. Some are tractors some are animals and some are the family name.

Yes, I think you are correct. Any idea about who does them?

No idea who did them. They have been there for quite a while. But just off US 31 on New Road there is a fresh roof that has a Moose on it so someone does still do artwork with shingles. I am sure it is a bit expensive but rather neat.

Hi rusty,

Check the archives as I remember seeing one with Farmall on the front of the barn. I don't remember if it was in a current thread (with-in the past week) or if I was digging thru the archives for "wood chippers".

Neat looking tho!
