I have a chance to get some steel tracks off a Farmall "M". will these fit my Super H? I purchased the H to pull my 20" Chris Craft I/B out of the lake & up a hill. the H doesn't have enought traction, even with the tires filled (loaded).

Maybe you will need to resort to a winch on the front of the tractor if the distance isn't too great.

Jim, I read all of the replys below, sounds like your problem is simply the soft ground you are pulling the boat across. Have you considered a set of dual wheels and tires for the boat trailer? Lots of farmers have had to resort to this when pulling farm implements across soft ground.

Rusty

Thanks again . My friend who helped me build the trailor suggested we add another axil in front of the present one. We built the trailor so the axil could be moved foward or aft. I think the extra tires would be better as duel & use just one axil.
The trailor was over built from 6x6 tube guard rail off the Interstate that was scrapped. Has 20" wheels & tires off a military truck to give you an idea. The tong has two extensions & is 30' long - to get the boat into deep water.

Tks

Thanks for your suggestion & to all the others who have added their two cents.
I spoke with the fellow who owns the tracks & he's asking $2500, I paid $1000. for the H. Think I'll go in another direction. I'm going to cut the bank down some, put some conveyor belts down for traction. I have winch mounted on a post up the hill, it was off a Dodge Ram Charger. maybe double it up & see what happens!
Thanks again
Jim

Probably ARPS Half-tracks. Take a look at the mounting brackets that bolted to the M and see if there's several mounting holes that were unused. Most things made by short line companies like ARPS that fit M's would also fit H's. Frame width on the SH is narrower than the M but all the mounting holes on the M are still on the SH, maybe have to put shims or spacers between the brackets & tractor. If footing is soft and loose maybe duals would make more sense. Tracks would tear up the surface Your running on eventually, duals wouldn't.

James,

I don't wanna argue with my buddy Rusty, but sounds like you are yankin' it up a cement boat ramp?

Me thinks the tire chains would only make it worse.

Get that tire pressure down to 10 or 12 pounds on the old H and I'll bet she comes a walkin' right up outta there.

No problem Allen, I never gave a thought as to the surface being used.

Allen,

Just re-read your answer. There is no paved surface, just beach stone & grass at the top of the slope. I wasn't thinking of chains but rather tracks that the farmer used in the spring to get through the mud. the tracks fit over the tires & have an extra wheel foward I think. The ones I was told about were for an "M" & mine is a Super H.

Tks

You would be much better off to just purchase and install a set of rear tire chains. It will make all the differance in the world for traction.

Just an FYI

I borrowed a set of tire chains yesterday and not much difference. I had a friend bring over his cat dozer & am going to rework the slope.

If this doesn't work I'll sell the H & look for a small dozer.

tks

Thanks for the replys

I'm on lake ontario, my drive to the beach is clay with some beach gravel pulled over the clay. Right at the waters edge the gravel (no sand) gets soft and the trailor wheels sink some. I went to 20" rims & tires off a truck for the trailor I built. But when I start up the slope on the drive the tractor looses traction. I thought perhaps the tracks would do the job. If I can't get the tractor to work I'll sell it & have to go for a small dozer - rather not have to!
Tks
Jim
