I just did a 4640 this spring I broke the sleeve in both wheels I tried a 20 ton jack inside pushing out and another on the end of the axelI put enough force on the inside jack I bent the ram and exploded the one on the outside I then called JOHN DEERE and they told me to build a swinging sledge to hit the end of the axel They can be hung from a fork lift or a loader or even a tree Mine is a 7 ft. long 5 in oil well pipe with a 1 in. plate welded over the end Weighs about 300 lbs. JOHN DEERE uses solid shaft with a jack inside the wheel pushing out bang the sledge hard against the axel and they will come loose JOHN DEERE assured me that nothing would be hurt in the tractor they were right it come loose didn't break anything I must of hit the axel 30 times and just as hard as I could swing the thing.Hope this helps Let us know

Mike,Can you give me more info on the broken sleeve? I have broken one on my 4230 and hve tried everything but hitting the axle with a sledge hammer. Was the tractor jacked up or on the ground? I have heated the sleeve, completely burned all the way thru in the key slot from one side to the other,no help yet.

I am very desperate as haying starts next week

Thanks
