Well just got in from vacation today. What did I miss?? Glad to see Dillon is doing better; Our prayers are with you.

Went to north Maryland to see our first grand child. Think I like this already. Held her for a week straight spoiling her then gave her to dad and told him; OH WELL if she starts crying to be held that’s your problem; We are going home now. (I can now finally pay my kids back. he!he!)

Spent a couple of days being dragged by the wife to see D.C. It was interesting and OK just a lot of walking and to much hustle and bustle for me.

Did get my turn to drag the wife into PA. to see the very beautiful county side and farms. Seen some old tractors here and there. Thing I noticed most was the steel wheels on in use tractors. Even newer ones. Don"t see that much at all around here.

Went over to the Amish country. (Thanks Red Dave for the directions) Kinda feel sorry for them. Here they are just trying to go on with life and all these tourist (including me) wanting to be nosy and see every thing. Even if you take the horse and buggy thing out that has got to be the MOST BEAUTIFUL country side; farm land; and dairies I have ever seen. Learned a lot about others life styles.
Did find one thing very puzzling though. Now get this.....
Amish do not have electricity because it brings TV and radio ect with it. I get that part. But they had a diesel motor to run a compressor to milk cows and had running water. Even seen some with a gas lawn mower and a string weed eater.
Now if they can have a diesel to milk cows and pump water; Why can"t they have a diesel tractor ????? ????? Just got me to thinking.

Well any way just wanted to say hello and thanks to any one that lives in the southern PA northern MD area for the great hospitality. It is now time to go back to work so I can rest up for my next vacation. Boy I sure need a vacation from my vacation.

One thing they all have in common is they don't pay taxes and if they live near by don't give a ride to shop it's a life time job.

John,

If I had known you were headed this way ,I
would have made sure to give you the grand tour.
Toget to lancaster co you had to almost go thru
my yard . Don't know whether you went up 165 to
74 to 372 or went up US #1 , but in either case
you were only 3 or 4 miles away .I am in between
those two roads and on the pa line. george

We were staying at my son"s house in Germantown Md. I think it is exit 15 off of 270????? ??
Any way we went up that interstate to Fredrick and onto hwy 15. Stopped by Gettysburg Pa. and then went across hwy 30 to Lancaster. Went back a differant way to Gettysburg (long way around) so we could see some other country side in Pa.
I will keep you in mind though because I know the wife will be dragging me back up their again to spoil the grand baby. Weather was great while we were up there. Think I may make wife take next trip at a time I can see some white rain. We had some of that white rain one or two times. Think last time was 1/2 inch in 1987.

Glad you're back. I deliberately did the grandbaby spoiling thing too and got a good laugh in the process. Daughter didn't think it was all that funny. Like I told one grandsone "Come on Blake, I'll take you to the store and buy you all the junk you want to eat". Ha Ha.

My understanding is that the Amish don't want anything that is self-propelled. They will pull an engine-powered baler or corn picker with a team of horses. Mennonites vary, but basically they wear the old garments but use modern farm machinery (although I'm told that they paint the chrome black on cars). The Hutterites live in colonies with dormitory style living. The women dress in old-style dresses; men in black pants and jackets - but the ones in Montana wear bright western shirts and cowboy hats. Hutterites use modern machinery. I was told that kids and youngsters work hard and at 35 they are made "boss" of something, even if it's just a flock of geese, and don't work so hard anymore. [That part doesn't sound too bad to me].
