workmaster or not

In 1958 (starting production in late '57) the 600 series was replaced by the 601 series. There were a few minor upgrades....a couple more hp, slightly higher compression ratio, but basically the same tractor; except they started painting them all red except for gray grille and fenders. Also they gave the 601 series a fancy name "Workmaster". My guess is someone slapped a newer Workmaster decal on the hood to make it appear newer for resale. What color is your 640? It should be gray (sheetmetal) and red (castings) like a Jubilee.

I have heard pretty reliable stories of some 800 series Fords in late '57 getting the newer "Powermaster" decals intended for the 801 series right from the factory. I've never heard the same about Workmaster decals being put on late '57 600's, but I suppose that is another possibility.

There are some date codes on your tractor that would help you narrow down the build date of the tractor. I don't know exactly when in '57 the 601 and 801 series began production.
