If the valve tips and rocker are tips have high & low spots worn in them. Setting with a feeler gauge can leave the lash wide & noisy. Try tightening the lash until spring pressure stops easy rotation of the push rod with your fingers. Back off 1/4 turn and tighten the lock nut.

Ignore this nonsense.

The proper way to set valve lash for any engine with followers or solid lifters is to use a feeler gauge and set it to the specs in the manual.

How does the realron measure across a curved contact surface with a flat gauge?

I don't know how the real ron does it but the real mike just pulls off the rocker arms and dresses up the faces with a grinder.

Mike ,

If they are too bad to just grind, build up with hard spray weld and grind. I have a rocker arm grinding attachment for a grinder , works nice.

Very few people dress the rocker arms true even when rebuilding the engine. For those who don't true the valve train up. The lash will be too loose when measuring with a flat feeler gauge over peaks and valleys.

b&d, Agreed,if rocker arm is not smooth then adjustment cannot be any where near accurate.
