Anyone know anything about the John Deere 318? I can get it for around
$3200. Its a 1990 with 345 hrs, power steering, hydraulics
and a 50 inch mower deck.

If the points are open, then positive on the negative side of the coil would be normal. Try rotating the engine a little each time to see if the positive goes away. If it doesn't, then either your points are misadjusted or bad.

bigp, I have a JD 314 and it is a really nice tractor, although I wish it had power steering. It needs it. I think the 314 and 318 are about the same except the engines. Mine has a single cyl Kohler. If I had it to do over I would have got the 318 with the twin, its a lot smoother. I think the Onan engines are OK too. I have a Cadet 782 with the 17 HP Kohler twin and it is a great tractor. Its really ironic that he wants $3200. Thats what I paid for my 314 new with the deck, and that was in 1981. Hope it works out for you, Good luck, Mark

I have for sale a John Deere 318. It has 365 working hours, w/adj seat, dual hydro, individual brakes, pwr steering, it is in perfect condition, no need to paint, engine does not eat oil and don't smoke. Tractor is located in Salem, OR. We can ship it by the truck. Cost $1560 for the tractor + shipping costs. I can accept paypal or ewire to my bank. send your email address if interested I'll email pictures.

These are a great tractor for most people but a few people have had problems with the rather complex Onan engine. A nice one will go for $3500 or more in central Missouri.

Hey, you know for being that old, see if the guy will come down at all, see if you can get it for about $2900. But that does not sound to bad since it has that low of hours.

I have a JD 318 I bought over 10 years ago
used,it has been great!I use it to mow the lawn, plow snow and have a home made trailer that holds about 3/4 yard (to big for the tractor)which gets used for hauling wood, dirt, gravel what ever.It has had problems but always worth fixing considering the work it dose.
