Hi

the ignition switch on my 135 has always been funny, and its just gone. The key is completley loose, and when you turn it nothing happens, the tractor was ran yesterday. Im certain this is where the problem lies, and will order a new switch next week.

Basically, I need to cut a 7 acre field tomorrow, and was wondering if there s any other way to start it, by shorting across wires or something.

Oh, by the way, it has the 4 post ignition switch, and it is a Perkins diesel.

Sorry for the long post.

thanks in advance

Ben

(I have also posted this on the MF board)

There are/has been alot of suprised looking people with screwdriver in hand. With a new door through thier shed or tractor tire tread marks over thier body. Fix it right or park it. Make certain the pto has the proper shields too.

Be CAREFULL!! I started my MF 35 several times with a screwdriver. One day after mowing most of the day I came in for fuel, shut the tractor off and when I touched the screwdriver to the solenoid a spark ignited the fuel and oil soaked dust on the motor. A lot of excitement for a few minutes. My buddy has a new door on his shop(before the tractor made the opening there was no door on that end) from hot wiring one that was in gear.Luckily we both can tell our stories.

Ben,

If you do try to jump the tractor be aware that the safety lockouts will also probably be bypasses. MAKE SURE the transmission is in NEUTRAL before you try this. I would hate to see you get run over.

Be safe, good luck

Joe

Joe,

Good point, I forgot to mention that. It will start up in gear and take off without you.

Ben,

With a 4 post ignition you can "hot wire" the tractor. I could not tell you which wires without looking at it but two must be tied together and the other two can be jumped across to engage the starter. It is not a "recommended" practice but I ran a David Brown this way for a couple of years with no problem.

If it is not the ignition switch you maybe able to turn the switch on an jump across the solenoid to start it.

Just some suggestions.

I have seen them started by a screwdriver or penknife used to short across the terminals, You get a shower of sparks and I am sure it is not really a good idea. If its not a multipower you can "tow her off".
