Thanks for the quick reply JT. But my problem is that the motor is still in the backhoe loader.
Where would I place the wrench?
The flywheel is not exposed , and I can't seem to find an access point to apply a wrench to either the flywheel bolt or any other bolts to test if I can get the motor to turn. Please advise. Thanks

Hi andrew,

Be careful the engine is not hydraulicly locked. Oil, diesel or anti-freeze in a cylinder(s).

Pull fuel injectors or glow plugs then try to spin the engine.

Generally there is a big nut on the front of the crank holding a pulley on. Sounds like you have a hyd pump up there, so need to decide what you can reach & what won't break when you turn it....

I'd look to the starter & eliminate that first, when the teeth get old they like to wear a weak spot & mash themselves together & lock up.

If the starter is the problem, a lot of times you need to turn the engine backwards a little bit in order to unstick the starter. Removing and replacing the starter would also get it loose, but that seems like a lot of extra work. It would, however, allow you to turn the engine with some sort of pry bar through the starter hole.
