I had a Massey Harris 22 a few yrs ago, and seem to remember the engine plate # starting with MFC. Just a guess though, can you post a picture? We'd be sure to identify it that way! ---Jeff

Well, MFC and 124 sure sound like a Continental 124 cu inch engine built for a Massey Ferguson. This is/could be an important tid bit to identify the engine in this manner.

My MF uses the oil pan casting for the front structrural member whereas Ford uses the engine block. By specifying the Cont. eng was for MF, it may have had different physical properties peculiar to MF.

Don't know of any other mfgr using Cont. Eng in tractors but MF and maybe Massey Harris.

Didn't Oliver use some Continental engines in their tractors also?

Somehow I think that is a plate from the engine right? Not on the tractor? From that I would guess it is a 124 Continental flathead engine, is your engine a flathead (plugs threaded in from the top pointing directly downwards)? Describe the grille, the sidecovers, tire size, color, etc. I'm guessing a Massey Harris but other makes used the same engine if it is a 124 Continental.

THANKS FOR ALL THE REPLIES, THEY HAVE ALL BEEN HELPFUL. I WILL TRY TO GET A PICTURE POSTED IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO.
IS THERE SOME WAY DO IDENTIFY THE YEAR THE TRACTOR WAS BUILT? I HAVE LOOKED, BUT HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANY DATE.
