I'm looking for another pickup and would like one of the 1990 to 1994 vintage. I'd like a 2500 series truck to do some periodic hauling. Which pickups of that era have a good track record (diesel or gas 4x4)? Thanks

Dodge with Cummins might serve you well. Only problem is the Getrag Tranny. Ones from 93 on have a NV transmission, it is much more reliable.

Reminds me of an old Texan who was braging to a friend from Oklahoma that he could drive his truck all day and not get to the other side of his property. The old guy from Oklahoma said "yep, I used to have a truck like that"

I'm sort of chuckling because reading the replies, I still think of a mid 90's truck as brand new! The 80's Ford diesels were slow and don't like the cold up in Canada. Any dodge with a cummins in it have a good rep. The 6 cylinder fords seem to last well. I'm not a fan of the 4wd chevys since 1987, to many problems and sealed expensive components.

Hey Don, you want to sell that truck? Now that's a very respectible truck. Did you know that the very first Freightliner was retired after 4,000,000 miles on it? Just think if they had that '92 technology back in the '50s, that Freightliner might still be on the road today. You'd be foolish to ever part with it! Doors don't fit as good as new with my '96 Dodge either, but they still close. Wonder if I can get 500K out of it as well?

In the 70's and most of the eighties I was a Chevy guy, but switched over to Dodge - guess just got a good deal. Gave my '88 away with 200K on it, still running strong. Traded my '94 with 43K on it because it was paid for and I was a moron. My '96 is just about to hit 200K and is running strong, and my '01 has 50K on it and better last forever because I'm not fond of the '03's and newer Dodges and don't see myself ever owning one. Never owned a Ford, but many of my buddies do, and they're strong runners too. The choice is yours, you've gotta live and work with it.

If you could get a Ford with a Chevy drive train and a Dodge warranty you'd have it made.

In fact all three are in cahoots together and buy many componants from the same suppliers, plus the amount of extended warranty companies around you can and do have this now. Maybe just not in the exact order you would perfer.

We had a 1990 F150 with the V8 gas engine that was a really good truck. When it got wrecked late in 2002 it had well over 300,000 miles showing. I had the transmission rebuilt several years before that and had the intake gasket replaced but other that that all other repairs were routine stuff like a new exhaust system, etc. Every fw years there seems to be a new "leader" in the industry, but from what I saw in the year range your talking about you can't beat a Ford. Just my .02

The Chevy gas engine trucks were good.
