I'm assuming you're TaraA. Did you get your Ford running? Must have as haven't heard from you lately. Most gear drives place the oil level just below the shaft seal. Most gearboxes have a pipe plug at the desired FULL level. Some gearboxes have a filler on top and others (like your differential in your P/u, assuming that any self respecting farm girl has one)use the full plug as the filler opening. You might want to take a piece of wire or something and test the oil level. If you are just acquiring this machine and the level is low, you might want to just drain all the fluid and replace with new. If the tractor has been sitting out or in a cold climate, condensation and rain ingestion could be doing a number on your metal. Drain plugs are easy to find. Just crawl under the tractor and look for a pipe plug(s) on the bottom of the housing. May be as many as 4 or as few as 1; usually 2 or 3. Some hyd sections have a dip stick which makes it easy. For sure if you have a dip stick, you have a top fill. The fill cap should be about 2 to 3 inches in dia somewhere on top of the housing. Book will tell you, but preferred fluid of the day was straight mineral oil. We use GL1 90w today. Good Luck, Mark
