I'm looking to buy my first tractor to brush hog 8 acres, plow snow, maybe some plowing and discing. Just looked at a 1969 Ford 3000, 3200 hours showing, four speed, started right up, no smoke, no leaky seals anywhere I could see, good tires, no rust, brakes stopped well, clutch seemed fine, hydraulics worked fine, a little play in the steering but not bad. Of course no live PTO with the 4 speed but does have an overrunning clutch. No power steering. The owner has been using it brush hogging and reports no problems. I really couldn't see anything wrong with it. Is $3000 a good price for this machine? I need to decide soon so a few quick replies would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Buy It!!!
I have a 1970 3000 with an 8 speed. It handles a 6' bushhog fine and many other tools. It is the handiest tractor I've ever owned/operated and a very strong tractor for its's size. Also, it has in excess of 4000 moderate/hard hours and does not use any OIL.
Good Luck

Thanks for the feedback! txblu, you won't need the guy's phone number because he doesn't have a tractor to sell anymore :-)

David, I've never owned a little Ford, but from what you say, it does sound like it from what I've seen. My neighbor just sold a Jubilee with a repairable bush hog and auger for $5,500, and it certainly needed wiring work in the worst way. My brother and I were at a friend of his that's asking $5,000 for his early 60's narrow front 4000 that has dry rotted tires and sets outside all the time, not taken care of, but runs with tinkering. There's what appears to be a 600 or 700 hundred series (not sure, and neither is the owner) that's been setting outside the nascar track in Joliet for months with a loader for $4,200 - broken hour meter so???, but appears to be in reasonable shape, and will toss in a rear blade for a few more $$$. Just saw what looks to be a 700 series settin for sale a little further south in Elwood with no price, but is very nice - I'm tempted to call the guy just to ask. So, not knowing Fords very well, sounds like a pretty good deal to me. But then again, I just saw an 1130 Massey go for about $4000 on Ebay the other night - it was nice, but the rears were locked together (explained the bald fronts), so the guy that bought it has his work cut out for him.

For what it's worth...seems like a pretty fair price to me. You could still run an offer by him to find out his bottom dollar. Don't think too long or you could lose the deal.

A good tractor is a great investment !
