I am interested in buying a farmall 806 . It is a narrow front. I have a wide front 450. Can I switch the front ends? Will the 450 front fit the 806? The 806 is a diesel..

scott i have an 806 they are the best danged tractor ih made except for maybe the 1206. to give u the right advise i have to know what size spreader u have. no offense but if your a horse person or a second rate "green acres" farmer the narrow will be just fine. the narrows turn short too. if u have a larger spreader say maybe 8 ton capacity the narrow will still work just set them out wide. other wise get a wide. and as mentioned above keep the narrow if u do change it. i should know about this deal. ive pulled a 15 ton turd hearse with ours. good luck chris

Having spent many hours on a 806 the 450 front end will fail . there is a notable differance from the 706 to the 806 front end .Iwould put a wide front on it but keep the narrow bacause its rare. and narrow fronts suck in soft ground stuck a few and the wide front will work better with a turd hearse

I think 806s and 1206s were probably the most durable tractors built. Just get the thing before it escapes to some undeserving character that won't appreciate it for the marvel it really is!

depends,if you don't plan to do loader work or stack a bunch of weight on the front it will be just fine.

depends on the area,i would call a dealer and see if they have one to price it against.
$2500 is salvage and a good one will bring
$5000 around here.

Unless you need the wide front, I'd leave it narrow. I used to drive one of those for a friend of mine, and I was impressed with how nimble the thing was for its size and weight.

You COULD swap the axles--just about anything is doable, but, in my opinion, the axle that is currently under your 450 is not near enough iron to adequately work under the 806. The -06 series was, in part, built to put to rest the bad reps the 460 and 560 earned during their teething years with respect to drive train reliability. The IH engineers were told to "build 'em hell for stout", or something to that effect.

My neighbor has an 806D, and I'm always impressed with how much iron is in that beast. You could drop it from 5000 feet, and I don't think you would break it. So, just my 2 cents worth, the 450 axle would look a bit spindly beneath the 806.

To each his own. Personally, I would keep the narrow front configuration on the 806. Someone else will have to chip in with information on this, but I don't think that many 806 narrow fronts were built, so I'm thinking the 806 you're looking at could be somewhat of a rarity--don't know for sure, however.

What is a narrow front 806 worth? It has 34 " good, not great tires, runs pretty good, Unknown if t/a works?

If the 450 axle is factory it is the same axle as IH used on the 806. All IH factory axles from the super M on to the 1456 are basically the same ecept maybe the inner tie rod ends.

i think you might have gottem some bad info on that.
letter series had their own with the tie rod in front,number series to the 60 series were all the same and 06 to 56 are the same.
66 through late 88 series are basicly the same except they have a cylander to steer them.
late 88 series had a square tube front.
hubs and spindles can be switched from a 06 series all the way to early 88 series.

You better stop with the 1256 front axel because the 1456 front axel is different and heaver.
