Trying to upgrade garden tractor to a 17hp Briggs-Stratton engine (#31F7070112E1) in an Mtd lawn tractor. New engine has slightly different wiring. It has a regulator on side of engine with Red , yellow wires coming out of it.Would red wire need 12v power source, with key on? Yellow turns to black into engine near back of motor. At front grey wire I know needs power with key on on position to open electric solenoid at carb, but other black wire -is it magneto wire or is rear one? Thanks

I bought a mower off a guy and he was showing me how he started it. He juiced up the wire to the magneto which is actually a ground to turn the engine off. One new mag. The two wire your talking about are probably the generator. If you go to the Briggs engine site and your engine is new enough you can get the wiring sch online. If you write them they'll send you it. Once I got one I found out that when your local service guy looks up a part, say the mag, all the electrical components listed on that page are wired together showing the schematic.
