I got water in the fuel tank = rust = poor to no running tractor... Same symptoms I now have after I rebuilt the carb. runs for a bit then stops.

I've rebuilt the carb on my Massey 20, but now I am having difficulties. I've searched the archives, and looked at a ford web site for rebuilding a Marvel-Schebler carb, but I continue to have difficulties. getting the tractor to run. (No I do not know which model I have ... see below) There is no ID plate on the carb, but I think it is a TXS 361

SO far:
tried ajd idle and main needle valves and the best start up and running I got was for both to be open about two turns. After the engine gets hot it stops. It seems to only run when the throttle lever is set all the way at lowest speed. If I open it up the engine dies. pulling on the choke wil help this a bit, but only for a few seconds.

Does this suggest that the main valve is dirty? It seems to operate as it will kill the engine if I close it.

The kit I bought to overhaul the carb had 4 idle valves in it, I took the one closest to the size of the one being replaced. It does idle a bit fast, If I close the throttle plate adj I think I can get this down , but I followed the specs for setting it. Perhaps I used a valve seat that was a bit too big?

(can't find the serial numbers. Welded over ) so I am not sure what type of Massey I have . It was sold to me as a 20. Red fenders, Massey on the front of the hood only, red hood, grey engine.. if any of this helps.

Thanks for any suggestions
thom

Open the carb drain, MT carb and turn on your fuel valve. Check for a continuous stream of fuel for at least a minute. That way you can be sure the feed to the carb is OK. If not, look for restriction.
Rebuilding the carb does not clean your tank/valve/lines/filters, so, from your post, I suspect the problem is in this area
