Was just wondering what kinds of fireworks are still legal in different parts of the country. It's getting pretty lame around here, only sparklers and fountains, best deals are at Wally World.

Take oxy-acetylene torch with flame snuffed out and try it on styrofoam coffee cups WHAT A BANG,and the cup looks like snow if you use enough of the gases. NO shrapnel involved..just make sure you dust off afterwards..... ..... .

can't have so much as a sparkler in New York State. PA allows non aerial no explosives, but if you are from out of state they will sell you anything in Class C just as long as you transport it out of state. I work in PA. so guess where I get mine ?

In Texas it is governed by local authorities. Usually cities set the rules. Get out of the city (usually larger cities) and it's fair game. Our county does have a county no-burn law, but it doesn't apply to fireworks.

This year won't be too bad as it is so wet. In dry years, bottle rockets can be a real problem.

There was an article in the paper just last week about fireworks. It showed a map of all the states and what they allowed. I did not save it but as I remember, most of the southern and midwest states allowed most all fireworks. Many other states allowed "safe and sane" fireworks. Those are defined as non-aerial type. And some few states allowed none at all.

Here in TN, it goes county to county. Most everything is legal in one county or another. Bottle rockets outlawed in my county, but just next door they are not. I live in the country so I do as I please, no complaints...

Game warden comes up to a guy dynamite fishing. Starts giving him a bad time. The guy lights a stick and hands it to the warden
"You gonna fish or talk?"

LOL

We still can buy firecrackers, display shells,& skyrockets in SC. No more bottlerockets, they were banned about 10 years ago. There are lots of fireworks stands near the borders of our state.

We have fire works available on a parish by parish basis. (county to you) Out lawed in large towns and can get it in country.
State out laws some types.
First to go was the big stuff years ago like M-80's. A few years ago they did away with bottle rockets because of roof fires. Need to go to Miss. to get them now. Bigger rockets and ground things are still available here.
The sad thing of out lawing fire works; and dumb a$$es needing to make noise is they now use guns. Guess it makes more noise if you point it at the sky instead of ground because we have had several people killed over past few years from falling bullets.

In Indiana, if it leaves the ground, it's illegal, but can get stuff that will hit the moon and blow it to bits, just can't use it (in theory). The heck with fireworks, have a few beers and drive around the field on tractors, shooting at each others with potato guns. Of course that wouldn't be safe, unless you borrow one of the wife's biggest soup pots to wear as a helmet.

Mark, just bought a bunch of stuff in hour fine state. It's illegal in Oh. too but they also sell it here. I figure if it's ok for people to buy it here you should be able to use it here. I'm out in the country so I have the room. I also do it SAFELY too, I Screw down all the tubes to a sheet of 3/4 plywood and I have extinguishers and water nearby. I also wear a nomex hood and glasses. As long it's done properly it's safe. (I don't use the loud stuff since there are horses next door and I don't want to spook 'em) The law does'nt usally bother with enforcing fireworks laws unless someone is shooting them at people or buildings. BTW; A guy just got killed and several others injured when the potato gun he made out of STEEL and filled with black powder, exploded! Imagine that!!

John, that's why we find the biggest soup pot that we can find to wear as helmets, they come down to our waists and double as body armor. Yeah, it makes it hard to see where we're driving and kind of hard to reach the steering wheel, but once you get used to it, it's alright. The secret is to hear the other guy's tractor echoing louder into your soup pot, and when it gets real loud, swirv left or right, then shoot left or right, depending on where the echo went. The biggest problem is that trees or fences don't echo until you crash into one, and then they just ring the soup pot pretty loud. We look pretty stupid out there and wreck a lot of tractors, fences, and other stuff, but it's only one day a year. Isn't it wonderful to live in a country where we're still independent to enjoy such things? Hey, happy 4th. Maybe after this year, we'll vote Roman candles into the mix.

Mark that soup pot idea sounds pretty good. Maybe good for an episode of Fear Factor!? Had one of the best 4th's ever. Shot off 150+ shells. Everybody at the party wants a repeat next year. Except for one of the shells going off in the tube every thing went great. Tube was kind of thin so next year think I'll use abs pipe so if they go off early at least it will be going up instead of out!

NH is the only state around where they're legal and then it's only the little ones. People come here by the thousands from Massivetwoshutts to buy them. While they're here, they also buy cheaper booze and cigarettes. Hehhehheh. We're also surrounded by states that have the "bottle bill" (deposit on bottles and cans). People here pick them up and take them to Maine, Vermont and Mass to redeem them. Makes a nice little industry for some industrious folks.
Kid that works at the dump saves out all the deposit ones and takes them to Vermont. Comes back with a nice chunk of change for very little effort.

M80's and cherry bombs, man those were the good 'ol days. If you go out of the city limits you can get fire crackers. Thats about it for bang effect. Always wanted to try the oxy-acet ballon bomb but was afraid the gestapo would stop by.

Same story here, but a lot of folks go to TN to buy them. Others like to set off a few sticks of dynamite or mining boosters. Never quite understood what the legislature was thinking, making it harder to get fireworks than real explosives.

We always use the oxy-acet. torch with the flame snuffed out. Fill balloons, have a long fuse, hold your ears. Biggest bang, no shrapnel. Don't do a plastic garbage bag though.

In Michigan, if it leaves the ground or goes BANG it's outlawed. That doesn't stop a lot of Michiganders from going across the state line, and there are many tent-firework sales that pop up just before the 4th. Probably much of what they sell is illegal. Neighbor was shooting off aerial percussion bombs the other day - scared the dickens out of my sheep. Really wanted to get the bean-field rifle out and show him how it was done.

Then right after firing rifles into the air the US military will think that you are shooting at them and then a rocket blows up your house, oops.
