I have been told that all I have to do to convert my IH 340 Utility to 12 volt is just change the Voltage Regulator. I heard this from a fairly reliable source. Has anyone else ever done this? and have it to work? Thanks for your reply.

I think what your reliable source was talking about is the fact that a six volt generator will produce twelve volts if equipped with a twelve volt regulator and twelve volt battery, however, this is not advisable. The six volt generator will overheat quickly and die prematurely. If you want twelve volts, do it right.

If a 6v gen will put out 12 then ask that dummy why they made 12v generators. You should have learned this in High School general science class.

Reliable source?

Shall we add battery, generator/alternator, shunts for gauges/gauge lights (J C Whitney sells them), cigar lighter, etc. If you have a gas engine, the ignition coil.

I did not add starter as most of them will take 12V as long as you don't grind them for more than a few seconds.

I would also strongly suggest you have a service manual with wiring diagram on hand.
