I wouid appreciate any tip on how to remove the impeller on a J.D. model 60 (same as an "A" } water pump is it pressed on or is it screwed on if so are the threads right hand or left. One thing about me is if I don't know about something is that it don't embarase me to ask someone who does ( you want damage something that way ) Thanks for any advice

I just got done with one.If you can,get a two cylinder magazine from about 2 or 3 issues ago.Tjhere was an excellent article on just that subject. The 620/720 style water pump will go right on a 60,the advantage is that they have 2 ceramic seals running against each other. The original 60 water pumps run the ceramic seal against the cast iron housing. If you have any flaws in the housing,it will leak! What the article tells you to do is,get the kit for a "20" series tractor and then machine the cast housing to hold the extra ceramic seal. This gives you the better sealing style with the old original housing.Or,just buy a pump for a 20 series and plug the bypass hole in the housing.Hope this helps,It is explained much better in the Two Cylinder article.Moline

Used to work in fathers JD dealership shop in the 50's and 60's and all we ever repaired were pressed on. Be very careful when handling and installing the ceramic/carbon faced seal. Try to handle it as little as necessary. and when you install it put a very light film of vaseline or some small amount of lubricant on the seal faces so they do not rub together dry, as this will damage the seal faces and make them to seal.

Thanks Gene I have done my own mechanic work for years but I grew up with an "H" farmall but had never worked on a J.D. to amount to any thing. I am restoring this tractor for my Niece as it belonged to her father, I have repainted all the green ,I lack the yellow wheels yet and reworking this waterpump. Thanks a lot for your help!

Denglers have rebuilt water pumps on the shelf. Cheaper than buying the 2nd set of seals after wrecking the 1st ones.
