Ok I'm starting to switch from rivits to bolts so now how do they go in the bar. Do you put them head up and nut down or head down and nut on top?? Thanks. Did one today and did it with the nuts on top and having problems with nuts hitting the hold downs.

Nuts go on top. You need to buy different hold-downs with more clearance.

I just switched the last sickle over to bolt-on today. Put the bolts in and seated them with a hammer, always seem to strip them if I try to seat them with the nut. Took less time than re-riveting it and will be much easier to service in the field...

One more word of wisdom - an air ratchet is a priceless tool to have when working with these!

Why not use the rivits? Seams like the bolt, and nut would loosen up after while. Stan

The bolts are serrated and use locking nuts. They do not loosen up. Much easier and faster to change sections with the bolts. I can replace 10 bolt on sections in the time it takes to redo a riveted section.

You might try and see if a JD hold down will fit if so theyhave hold downs for the bolts and rivets. probably can get them other places for other mowers too just know deere has them since we're using a 1219 deere the nut will set the head if you do that before you put the section in place. Otherwise slip a shim under the hold down you'll have to bend the other end down though to make up for the shim.

Hi old,,Geee its so nice that you finally asked something that i actually know something about :o) Yes the nuts go on top and you might need to get new hold down clips that allow for the higher bolts,,they make them but you might need to go to a jobber,,when i put the bolts in i like to hold the bar somewhat solid or best you can and pound the bolt into place as if you try to pull the bolt in place with the nun i have a tendency to strip my bolt off before the head is set but the bolts seem to be harder than the rivets and are less likely to strip off,,,There are a god send i i really like them

What can I say. I answer more question then I ever ask but some of this new stuff has me having to ask. LOL Now the fun will be to see if this old Allis haybine that we pulled out of the brush was worth spending 4 days on getting it back up and running again.

4010 guy,s experience has been the same as mine. You will like the bolts. They are easy to change in the field.
