Just heard on the news that Ronald Regan passed away at age 93. While not perfect and had his faults. He did at least put the US back on the map and restored some pride. After getting stalemated in Korea, problems with Vietnam and up to the hostages in Iran. The US needed someone like RR who brought the USSR down without firing a shot.

I will be forever proud of President Reagan, and proud to have served in the US. Army under him as Commander in Cheif. I will never forget the double digit inflation rates (in the 20's) in the years that preceded him. I will never forget the "turn down the furnace and put on a sweater" years before him. The creation of the ARM (adjustable rate mortgage) gimick so that we could realize the American dream of buying a house, that preceded him. I will never forget the closings of factories and losses of jobs back home in Elkhart, IN that preceded him. Sure, there will be detractors of President Reagan, as well as twisting and spinning of history, but I, as many lived through those days and years, and will never forget what President Reagan did for these United States of America, much of the world, my family, my friends, and myself. May God bless President Reagan, I will miss him sincerely, and will never forget - Mark.IN.

RR always reminded me of Teddy Roosevelt;"speak softly and carry a big stick"! A Great man that made all of us proud to be Americans!
As He told European school kids; "Uncle Sam is very gentle but has a spine of steel"
He will be missed. Larry Coltrin

There is supposed to be room for a 5th president on Mount Rushmore. The 40th president belongs there.

Farwell to a great man indeed. Even his detractors had the utmost respect for him. The only ones who didn't were those who would condemn the likes of Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln for being the great Americans that they were. I place Ronald Reagan in the company of these men. Thank you President Reagan for your vision and resolve.

Compassion for the poor indeed. During Reagan's Presidency, the working man enjoyed the Americqan dream and accumulated wealth beyond that of any time before him. There were jobs for everyone who wanted to get up off his duff and go to work in the morning. The only poor people you speak of were poor because of self imposition, NOT because the economy created their poverty. I would say also that with Alzheimers, (and I hope you never have to go through it with any of your loved ones), that he could remember more in the final stages than you could with all your faculties. In fact, I would say that he forgot more than you will ever know. BTW, you must have been the one they were speaking of when someone discovered a horse with two A$$ Holes?

I don't know who you are. Of course that's the way you want it, isn't it? But you must be pretty proud of yourself since you don't use your name or a regular handle. How does is feel to be a no-class coward? You want to have those opinions, that's fine. Come right out and show .01% of the courage that Dutch had and let us see who you are. I have a feeling you'd rather hide in the shadows and snipe away with your insults. Low life slime.

I just wish that current Bush administration would have done the same to China as with USSR, & instead they are in bed with them! Makes me sick to think about! From A strong (former) Reagan supporter. God Bless!!!

As a mid-60s Army Green Beret, I had to serve under Johnson, after Kennedy, who I respected- while it would have been a real privilege to serve Reagan or either of the Bush's, but we did our best with what we had to work with. All of them brought respect to this country and the office of the Presidency. Of course there are detractors of any administration, and we don't support all decisions, even of those we support with our votes and allegiance. But it is better to have a commander-in-chief that we can be proud of, and be willing to serve, rather than a commander-in-briefs.

He was the best. I was in the dumps during election year 1980: Iranian hostage mess, super high inflation, super high interest rates. I just got married and wanted to buy a starter house; could see no way to get it done. Heck, we even created a number to tell us all how bad it was--the MISERY INDEX.

Ronald Reagan came along at just the right time. Peace through strength; trust but verify, and Mr. Gorbachev DID tear down that wall.

I was in the Army when Dutch took office. After he got sworn in it was like some one flicked a switch on the USA.
His leadership was infectious. We were all glad to be Americans again.
He will be missed.

I was in the National Guard at the time and I know just what you're talking about, Kelly. When I joined in 1979, everybody was just going through the motions, morale was low, equipment was old. All that changed during the '80s. Even though many of the people in the unit were still the same when I got out in '92, and things were starting to go downhill again rapidly right after the Gulf War, everything was MUCH better. I suspect it took things longer to turn around in the "part-time" army than it did in the regular force.
