Bees Took Up Residence In My Tractor ...Help!!!

Went out this evening to work on my old tractor to find that bees had built a nest/hive somewhere in the space between the hood and gas tank. Every little tap or movement on the tractor results in aggravating them and a small contingent of sentrys are sent out to see what I'm up to. They look like a honey bee and are definitely not a yellow jacket. I can not see the nest to spray it but can easily hear them buzzing when I disturb them. How do I get rid of them when I can't see them? Anyone have any ideas or am I going to have to wait till the first frost to get rid of them?

You can put on heavy clothing and coveralls, a broad rimmed hat with a (taped down) mosquito net over it, leather welding gloves and tape up all openings with duct tape and go around any stinging bees that I know of. If you get stung...you didn't use heavy enough clothing. Did you ever wonder when the chips are down if you are a coward or not? This will test you! Fred OH
PS Do you reckon that back in the old days they hired a fellow in a suit of armor to do this?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I started off with a good blast of carb cleaner last night and then followed up with a good soaking of foamy hornet and wasp spray (almost a half a can) this morning. Hopefully I either exterminated them or made thier neighborhood too toxic to hang around any longer. Will have to wait till this afternoon to see the results.

You have just a small simple problem to solve. Just put tarp over your tractor after dark and bug bomb it. MAKE SURE TARP TOUCHES GROUND ALL THE WAY AROUND.In morning your squaters will be gone and or dead
Good luck

If they are honey bees, check with any local apiaries and they should be happy to come out and collect the swarm.

fill a dish washing soap bottle with seven dust and hit them at sun set when they all are in the hive area. wont hurt the paint and will repel just about any insect.

I've heard that if you run an elctric fan as close to them as you can get it they will fight the fan until they die. Don't know if it actually works or not.

Whatever you use to kill them, do it after dark, when they are all in the nest. Otherwise, the ones out will be back soon, & will not be in a good mood when they return to a poisoned nest.

If you can get at least close with a spray I'd have a go at them with spray carb cleaner. Get the can with the little tube as it will bounce the spray around pretty good in there and the fumes are nasty to them too. Kills very well. Loren

Carb cleaner is instant death but it can eat paint also!! Ether will kill them too if you can't actually see the nest but know about where to spray. Another good "southern wasp spray" is Gunk engine cleaner (I think it's just expensive off-road diesel with a few extra ingredients mixed in) The engine cleaner sprays a far distance and it won't hurt your wiring or paint and when you're all done you can wash it off with water. It doesn't provide the instant kill that carb or brake cleaner does but it's got good range and they can't fly once it gets on their wings. Then you can come in for the kill with shock-and-awe of the cleaners...

Carb cleaner will ruin some paints, so use with that in mind.
