I have a 30'x40' cinder block building with wood frame pitched roof and it has been invaded by several families of squirels big time. They have built nests up in the eaves and are having babies. They run around on the beams, walk around on the overhead doors when they are opened, have chewed up everything cardboard in the building, are pooping all over, seem to be chewing on the rafters and I can't leave my dog's food bowl in there because they will eat that if he doesn't finish it. They even chewed up a bunch of golf balls. I notice they are able to get traction on the cinder blocks and walk right up the walls. What can I do? Shoot, trap poison, I have to do something fast that works.
Thanks for advice.

If you don't like the noise and other side affects of shooting and poison, try large rat traps. Pecans or peanuts work real well for bait. After all, they're just cute rats.:)

I've had very good success using moth balls for getting rid of all sorts of critters. Just put some saucers around in the eves and fill them with moth balls. I put them on the garage doors openers to deter nesting birds, put them in a small hanging cloth sack to deter woodpeckers, throw some around in the garden to chase off rabbits and a variety of bugs, even put some around in my hay loft to keep the mice out. Moth balls have been around for a very long time, for a reason. They work.

I use a twenty gauge, side by side. Gets two at a time quite often.

Would that be 2 varmints at a time or 2 six-packs?

Go to your local sporting goods store and purchase a bottle of Red Fox-P. Take a empty beer can and punch a few hole into the sides. Then put a half dozen cotton balls in it. Pour a few drops of P into the can. Toss these cans around in the area the critters are staying. They "will" leave the area. Mike

I'd suggest all three with shoot being first choice. I use a 410 and a 12ga. Got a mess of them this past spring. Neighbors cats do the draggin' after the fallin'

One or more good cats would take care of them real quick. I mean good cats, not some fat lazy overfed house cat that lays around all day and night. Good cats are getting scarce.

Yeah cause their good fer nuttin owners fall in love with em and spoil em.

Never had cats. Couple of years ago an orphan was eating crickets under the night light. Couple of weeks later it was in the house. Now it's in the bed and we have acquired another. Love them to death expecially the Siamese. Used to feed the orphan dry cat food. Now with the addition of the Siamese, they only want canned tuna.

Oh well,

The barn is full of mice but I guess they are safe for now. Grin

Now is the time of the year to get you a good cat. Go to the local dairy farm with a feed sack and a good pair of leather gloves. Catch one or two of the kittens that comes to the barn with its mother to get throw away milk. (every dairy has them) Put it in sack and take home and let loose. You will never touch it again but you will not see squirrels; mice; rats; snakes; bugs; lizards in your yard again.

If you live by me come by and we may be able to catch one of mine you can have.
