I am not trying to pick on anyone here but, I check ALL fluid levels before I turn a key. If you were operating that tractor and did not know how to check the hyd. level you should not have started it up.

It's absolutly astounding the number of owner/operator/mechanics who don't have the manuals? Why? Link and if they are not there, call 1-800-522-7448 to get them cheap from Mother Deere.

This man did not ask for a lecture on how to care for his machine or where to get a manual nor is it your business if he owns a manual. Bob was helpful and if you cannot provide positive feedback, most folks would just as soon not hear your opinion.

The acronym which comes to mind is MYOB.
I thought the comment and advice to be honest and fair. Very fair, in fact.
We all, well most of us, live in the real world - and manuals are real items which are specifically designed to indicate the correct maintenance operations for the particular machine.

He is just pointing out the value of spending a few dollars to learn how to identify controls, maintain, and operate the tractor. That does more than eliminate unnecessary questions- it makes the owner, especially inexperienced ones, better operators. Computers, cars, etc. come with owners manuals. Tractors did too- but now when they are gone, some people are either too cheap to spend a few bucks, or they think they know enough, and go without them. If 'most folks' think they don't need them- then it is their loss, not ours. That's why I don't respond to these requests with the information being asked. Once they find out how much info is in the manual, beyond what they first wanted to know- and they don't think it was worth the price- then if they want to be that illiterate, they should pay their own insurance bills when they whang themselves for life in their ignorance. And maybe kill someone as well.

Thankyou JMS/MN. I couldn't have said it any better myself. Sounds like BAJ and Hot Rod are Darwin Award candidates.

At the rear of the tractor, on the cast iron cover over the differential, there is a dipstick with a knurled knob that you unscrew. It is at the front of the cast iron cover, to the left of center, near the transmission oil fill cap.

If you have 3-point, the dipstick is near the front of the casting that the three-point lift arms come out of, to the right of center.
