Last Info I saw was that the average tax on gas in U.S. was $.40 / gal. The average profit for the Oil companys was $.13 / gal.

NOW WHO DO YOU THINK IS PRICE GOUGING???

Now if our vehicles ran on water would it still cost $8 per gallon when bought in pint drinking bottles? My point is- we don't mind paying, whatever the cost, if we really want it.

Blame who you wish for the price of gas in the US but who will you blame for the high cost of gas in Canada?

I must disagree with you!
The biggest problem we have with our....
Health
Unemployment
Roads
Compensation systems ..... is that, taxes are collected for these systems, some of them, the tax is put in a fund to pay for it, BUT as soon as there is TOO MUCH in that fund, it goes into the GENERAL FUND, and before you know it, it all goes directly to the general fund, the people who look after the general fund use it like a disfuncional family with dads pay cheque. Slowly there isn't enough TAXES comming in to to pay all the NEW BILLS and the social expenditures. So they raise taxs on the premise that there is not enough money for the social expenditures. We have a tire tax that's was to pay for the roads, it goes straight in the general fund and they don't enough money to fix the tire size pot holes all over Ontario. What they don't think of is, it's TAX money not theirs, our Governer General spent close to $40+ mil. last year, and that's just one of our disfuncional family. They should just take 80-90% of our income and save a lot of wasted expence collecting it by bucking us into the poor house. Think of the big corporations that don't want to pay taxes, where do we get the money from, to pay income tax and all the hidden taxes (higher wages).
I think it still comes down to GREED with a pinch of stupidity.
Just look at the difference in the cost of drugs between Canada and the USA, the drug companies wants Canada to increase the cost here to stop USA cross border drug shopping. It saves your seniors 40 - 100%. The drug companies say our drugs might not be safe, and there made by the same companies as yours go figure. We have different rules on drug pricing, but I'll bet they will be changed so OUR DRUG costs will = yours in a few years.

I don't think we disagree - I was only kidding. The last thing I want to see is socialized medical care because I believe it will be mishandled.

The same things where said in the 70s when gas went from 19.9 a gallion to 75 plus a gal. Its not the man at the top that does it but all of them in the offices, and the oil companys wanting more in there back pocket. Its also caused by all the big gas hog cars on the road, in the 50s and 60s they had cars the got 40 plus mpg and now you don't see many of them but you do see the gas hogs

Old, I'm talking automobiles, not novelty toys. When is the last time you considered taking your family on vacation or even to a movie in an Isetta, Messerschmitt, or King Midget. I say, if you can afford the vehicle, and can afford the gas, drive anything you want. And BTW, we need gas guzzlers out there, because according to M.D.O.T. comissioner, the small more gas efficient cars, (30mph and over) dont pay enough highway taxes to keep the highways in good repair. Its the gas guzzlers, and Trucks.

Ya but just think how the high gas prices hurt the old people on fixed incomes. And also the fact that there is only X number of gallions of crude that can be pumped out of the ground. Also a lot of cost in highways is there because of the way they build them, like the time I was working on a highway thing and one day we removed dirt just to put it back the next day because some one made a mistake. I made gross $1500 and that was just me there where 4 other dump trucks on the job. Other cars where the Simpca, the Renualts, R10, R8 and the dulphine. All of them where 4 door cars with room for 4 people.

Maybe you should think it thru a little Jerry. What was the cost per gal. when bush took office and look at it now. And we will only see it go up in price. With all the people in the good old USA why cant we have a better choice for President than the two we have now. The choice we will face this fall is between a proven poor one and one who perhaps will do no better.

That's right F/F. And may I add , if the oil companies don't make any money , why are all the oil people millionairs? It's like the big peanut butter shortage when Carter was in office. Was it just coincidence that Carter was a peanut farmer? I don't think so. No one can tell me anything good that Bush has done for this country. Not one thing! Stand back and take a good look at what Bush has done. You will see that all he has done was focus on his oil. Also making his rich buddies richer , so that they look the other way. He could care less about anything , or anyone else. And Kerry????? ????? ? Well , I have to agree with the "Anyone But Bush" slogan. It finally comes out that the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" was fabricated. I knew that from the start. Bush was looking for any excuse he can , to go after the oil. Control of the flow of world oil!!

I believe what Jerry was referring to was Kerry's reported plan to increase the federal gasoline tax by 50 cents.

Actually I was trying to illistrate that the fuel cost are a global problem but we are far better off that a lot of others. We need to start getting more independent and start using our own resources. I have started making notes and when I go into town I try to get everything I will need. Its suprising how easy it is to reduce my fuel usage without even feeling it. In the end it will be the same as everything that has happened in the past. We will reduce our usage and in a few months the oil companies will be so over capacity they will be swimming in oil. They are now different than the farmers that increase the supply of whatever had a good price in the previous year and ruin the price in the future. Lets hope:

Kerry sure doesn't care about gas prices, He married into the Heinz ketchup empire. So money is no object anyway.
